TV Tips & One-Liners. These shows move around the schedule and come and go, so check the TV guides for schedules and the newest info. Boxing or Combate hasn't been on for a while. There were a few nights of boxing in 7/99 and 7/2000.

10/29/00 - Freedom and Level 9, two new action shows on Friday, at 8 and 9 p.m. on UPN/KCOP chan 13. Freedom has four special-forces fighters form into a team to save the future. This looks like the better of the two if you can take the violence. Level 9 is a team of high-tech geeks with guns. They talk and act high tech, but it's the usual violence, and not very good. One line went something like 'Oh, in maybe 10 years your police department will have high-tech equipment like this.' See you in 10 years. Try www.upn.com for a link to Freedom, but I couldn't view Level 9.

10/23/00 - Magic - "Masters of Illusion" on Monday, 8-9 p.m., KPXN (PAX) chan 30. It started a few weeks ago, maybe four nights a week, now it may be just one night a week. Check if your're into illusion.

10/19.1/00 - Want heavyweight boxing mixed with the hype and scantily clad "managers/cheerleaders" of pro wrestling and something like Olympic scoring? It's "Thunderbox" Saturday 8-9 p.m. on KCAL channel 9. The boxers, I don't know, could be good amateures or not-so-good pros. The "managers/cheerleaders" look good. Scoring is irrelevant since viewers want knockouts. Also, the audio is irrevelant. You can turn off the sound and try the radio, a CD, books on tape, or whatever. Site at www.thunderbox.com.

10/19/00 - So much for the TV guides. At least two papers showed the lineup mentioned in the 10/17.1/00 Flash, but "Travel Cafe" and "The Immortal" weren't on last night. What can I do? "Bette" and "Welcome to New York" were both a tad better than last week.

10/18/00 - "Nightline" has a site and will email notices about their shows. See nightline.abcnews.com.

10/17.1/00 - This Wed 10/18/00 is looking better. Try "The Immortal" a new action show at 10 p.m. on KNBC chan 4. I've seen two hours; one good, one bad. If time allows try "Travel Cafe" 9 p.m. also on KNBC chan 4. This covers restaurants/food in L.A. and elsewhere, and I always enjoy it. For comedy try the new "Bette" and "Welcome to New York" shows at 8 and 8:30 p.m. on KCBS chan 2. These last two started weak but could get better. See Reviews and Tips on those pages, but a search may not find them since I didn't get indexed this week.

10/17/00 - Saw "Family Law" last night with Karen Valentine. Always liked her, and she did a good job. I may have to watch this series more often, last night was a good show. Also, always liked Dixie Carter, but she had such a small part last night .

10/15/00 - Some of the better new Drama shows this season include: Deadline Mon 9 p.m. NBC chan 4; C.S.I. Fri 9 p.m. CBS chan 2; The District Sat 10 p.m. CBS chan 2; and that's it for now.

10/12/00 - "Bette" and "Welcome to New York" started last night at 8 and 8:30 p.m. on KCBS channel 2. For "Bette" keep Bette Midler, her writer, and maybe her agent/girlfriend. A plot would help. For "Welcome to New York" at 8:30 p.m. keep Christine Baranski, her writer, and maybe her assistant. For both get a new support cast and a writer for them. I don't care for most sit-coms, don't watch them often, and usually don't watch the 'hot' shows. So, what do I know? I'd have to rate these two shows so far as almost ok with a chance to get better with better support and writers.

10/8.1/00 - An interesting site is www.tv-world.net with info and site links for many old and new shows.

10/8/00 - The new TV season started 10/2/00. Here are some tips. Always check the TV guides for the newest information.

-- For syndicated action shows try four new ones. 1- "Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda," Star-Trekish, Sat at 5 p.m, KTLA chan 5. Site at andromedatv.com. 2- "The Immortal," Highlanderish????, Sun at 2 a.m., KNBC chan 4. 3- "Queen of Swords," Zorroish, Sat at 3 p.m., KCOP chan 13 with site at thequeenofswords.com 4- "Sheena," queen of the jungle, Sun at 12:30 a.m., KABC chan 7, with a site at www.sheenatv.com. Check the TV station sites, listed on the Guides page, for other sites, maybe.

-- For women I liked in previous shows, try Marg Helgenberger in "C.S.I.," Fri at 9 p.m., KCBS chan 2. She did good in "China Beach" and did ok in "C.S.I." but seems to have a rather small part. Another is Chistine Baranski in "Welcome to New York," Wed at 8:30 p.m., KCBS chan 2. She was about the best part of "Cybill" and premieres 10/11/00.

-- PBS and others have good shows also. Check the 10/1/00 L.A. Times "TV Times" TV guide for more - some of this came from there.

10/6.1/00 - "Dark Angel" - didn't like it - dull - dull - good luck.

10/6/00 - Check this week's L.A. Times TV guide for a review of the new TV shows. Check the 'syndicated' page for four new shows which will be mentioned here someday. However, they start this Sat & Sun, so don't wait for me to list them.

9/11/00 - KVCR Channel 24 www.kvcr.org can be hard to receive, but Sat. 9/9/00, for the 7:30 p.m. restaurant show "Let's Dine Out" letsdineoutshow.com the signal was very strong in the South Bay on rabbit ears. More power??

8/30/00 - Remember the "Highlander" TV series? That guy (he was ok) will star with the movie guy (didn't like movies or him) in the next "Highlander" movie which is due soon. That may bring reruns of the TV series which were ok. The TV series has several sites: one is www.highlander-official.com. The movie has a site at www.highlanderendgame.com.

8/28/00 - Try "Dark Angel," a new Sci-Fi drama (and T&A?) with the two-hour premiere on 10/3/00 on Fox, KTTV, Channel 11. The previews look interesting. See today's LAT, Calendar, page 49. Go to their page from www.fox.com, under Shows.

7/31/00 - "Total Recall 2070" - Low-budget, one-hour, cop/buddy, Sci-Fi show. Try early Sunday morning 12:30 a.m. and Mon 12:45 a.m. (repeat of two week before?), on KCBS Chan 2. Check the TV guides and VCR one. Site at www.totalrecall2070.com.

4/21/99 - "Huell Howser", "California's Gold", "Visiting.."; search for. Good stuff about CA. He's on somewhere at least once a day, almost every day. www.calgold.com

8/17/00 - Eye on LA abcnews.go.com/local/kabc/onair/32482_1202000.html - KABC channel 7. Try Sat 6:30 p.m. also, check guides.

Vista L.A. abcnews.go.com/local/kabc/OnAir/29042_9171999.html - Sun, 11 a.m., KABC Channel 7. Mexican food & culture. On about every two weeks.

The Joy of Music with Diane Bish - 8/8/00 - Now clicktv.com says Fri at 5 a.m. and Sun at 2:30 a.m., KTBN channel 40. Sun could be a repeat of the previous show. Has been Mon & Tues at 9 a.m. plus Sun. She can play the big organs. Did real good on dual organs with J.S. Bach "Toccata and Fugue in d Minor." Keep checking schedules; search for "bish" (maybe "joy"). Many shows are shot in European churches. ezinfo.ucs.indiana.edu/~joymusic and www.dianebishtv.com.

-- *In 5/99, at the end of a show from San Francisco, she played Nimrod from the Enigma Variations by Edward Elgar. Fantastic -- I keep playing the tape till I can find a CD. 6/11/99 - Save your money. I found three of the same version at one local library, and it sounds like Nimrod is the only great thing he ever did. It sounds good by an orchestra and the guy on kettles gets a workout, but I almost like Diane on organ better. Played Nimrod again 7/13/99 in a show from Korea. No food to eat but a great organ.

Travel Cafe, B. Smith, & Carrie Wiatt - Nice group of shows about 9-11 a.m. Sun on Ch 4. Often preempted by sports, etc. B Smith (a practical Martha Steward with more food) and Carrie Wiatt. Travel Cafe email only at travelcafenbc@yahoo.com. 8/9/00 - TC has a site at www.travelcafetv.com. Must have just happened the last few months.

Classic Arts Showcase - Everyday, 1 or 2 a.m. - 5 or 5:30 a.m., KCET channel 28. Performing arts, short videos, needs support.

Travels with Chuck Henry, KNBC channel 4.

Wine 101 - KOCE channel 50. Get to know wine and beautiful scenery. Only six shows in the series. Again 1/99.

Martha Steward Living - KCBS channel 2. Highlights from the week's programs. www.marthasteward.com sometimes works.

Tom Snyder - Tues-Sat, 12:35-1:35 a.m., KCBS channel 2. Better talk, the last season, try now. **Last show was 3/26/99. Miss you Tom.

2/3/99 - Boxing. Also, during last year either channel 9, 11, or 13 presented a few nights of good matches during prime time. I'd guess it was channel 9 on Sat night.

Boxing. Several hours of good matches were available on Sat night 1/23/99 and 1/30/99. It started with KVEA Ch 52 from 10 p.m. to about midnight. And, the women can punch. Next was KMEX Ch 34 from 11:30 p.m. to about 1 a.m. They both tend to carry the lighter-weight boxers who put on a good show. In Spanish, but as with many shows you can turn off the sound and listen to something else. The designated DJ (disc jockey) is one option. Even the commercials and promotional spots are fun without the sound.

3/13/99. Combate (or Combate Mortal) - moves from Fri to Sat, 9:30-11 p.m., KWHY channel 22. Cage or whatever fighting dubbed into Spanish.

*Revised since date shown
