9th September 2003

Almost two weeks past the closest approach, but Mars is still so big. In fact, it has just shrunk by just 0.8 arc sec. That is real small! You can in fact see Mars well until end of September before it shrink to below 20 arc sec. A 10 arc sec and above is often regarded as the "prime time" to view Mars.

This is an animated Mars from 3 images I took at 10.40pm, 11pm  and 11.15pm.

22 August 2003 ( add GIF animated images of Mars)

This "mini movie" of Mars shows it's rotation in two hours beginning from 12.30am to 2.30am local time on

22 August 2003.  This was done by taking a series of images at 10 minutes interval.

21 August 2003 (One week to closest approach!!!)

After a brief spell of bad weather, the sky was finally clear enough for me to take new images of Mars this morning.

***************************

These three images of Mars above were taken with my QC4000 webcam. Imaging with webcam are by far the easiest and most popular for planetary images. I am still learning and I will post more images taken with webcam as they are available.

The above images were taken with my Meade 10 SCT telescope. This is the first time I used stacking of  2x and 3x barlow to achieve higher magnification while setting my optical zoom of my digital camera to 0. I would like to see if this method can produce a better image. While it is still early to confirm anything, I will continue to give this method another try soon.
