JEREMY THATCHER, DRAGON HATCHER

By Bruce Coville

Your book group will be meeting each week to share what you have read about Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher. You are expected keep up with the assignments and to take active part in group meetings.

Journal responses and published projects are also due on February 18!

In your reading journal, respond to each of these questions with a complete paragraph. (Three or four detailed sentences that answer all parts of the question with reasons and details.) Write "JEREMY THATCHER RESPONSE" at the top of each page.

1) After completing the first assignment…So far, what have you noticed in this story that has been fantasy? Name each of those things and what makes you think they are fantasy.

2) After completing the second assignment…Jeremy is facing a serious problem after Tiamat burns Mr. Kravitz’s foot in art class. What helpful advice would you give Jeremy for solving this problem?

3) After completing the third assignment…When Tiamat leaves, Miss Priest tells Jeremy "Midsummer’s Night will break your heart; All Hallow’s Eve may patch it." After having read the ending of the story, what do you think she meant by that? Explain with examples from the story.

PICK ONE OF THE CHOICES BELOW AS YOUR RESPONSE PROJECT FOR JEREMY THATCHER, DRAGON HATCHER.

Whichever choice you make, it must be a fully developed piece of writing, with at least two drafts (rough and final), careful editing for mechanics, creative revising (changes in content), and a plan for adding artwork and publishing your work. Keep your response project in your Writing Collection, since that is what you will be doing in writing for the next few weeks.
