A visit to Bangkok and the River Kwai.

I came to Bangkok Airport in the evening. I teamed up with couple of other people from the plane, and went by train into the city. By the time we arrived in the "tourist ghetto" Kao San Road, almost every hotel and guesthouse were full. I split up with the others and finally found a room. The next day I walked around the city to re-confirm some tickets, and I also went down to Patpong (the red light district) to see why Bangkok is called the Sin City. Maybe I didn't get the right impresion because it was in the middle of the day, but I have seen worse places. In the evening I had a couple of beers in the hotel, with some other Scandinavians that i met. The next day I went on a tour to see the floating market and The River Kwai Bridge. The Floating Marked was a place with only tourists and no locals except for the people selling goods from their boats. The Bridge on the River Kwai was also touristic, but it was nice to see, and walk over this famous bridge buildt during the second world war. I also went to see the memorial curch-yards and the monuments over the alied men who died during the building of the 'Death' Railway. During the consruction there died about 5 times more Asians than Europeans, Americans, and Aussies all together, but everything was focused on the westernes. Not a single monument over the fallen men from Asia!!
My trip to Bangkok had just been a short stopover, so the next day I went on to Cambodia.
