THE "FIVE/ONE" MATCH-UP DEFENSE: RULES

You can start the "Five/One" Match-up defense out of any standard zone alignment: 2-3, 1-3-1, 1-2-2 or 2-1-2. We like to start out of a 2-3 or 2-1-2 alignment so that the offense will show us a one-guard front offense. The sole reason that we do this is we feel we have a better opportunity to execute a fast break against a one guard front.

#1 - takes the point man or the man on the right in a two guard front.

#2 - takes the first man to the left of #1.

#3 - takes the first man to the right of #1.

#4 - takes the second man to the left or right of #1.

#5 - takes the center, if no center he takes the man on the right high or low.
