Poetry Rocks!

Please visit my new page to read my friend Cecilia's Poem. Thanks.

I wanted to include some of my favorite poems and poets, and other books that I like. My favorite poet is Langston Hughes. Never heard of him, you say? He was the most prominent poet of the Harlem Renaissance and he is credited with adding jazz rhythms to poetry. His poems are really cool because they're free verse and raw, unlike some of that boring Romantic or Victorian stuff your teachers read you. To see the special page I have created to show you some of his best poems, click here.

Other poets I like include Sylvia Plath, William Blake, e.e. cummings, Allen Ginsburg, Edgar Allen Poe, and Maya Angelou. There aren't too many good sites on the web that have their poems archived, so you should definitely go to a bookstore or library and check out their poetry. Here's another page I made with some assorted poems from these authors.

Here is a list of some of my favorite books:

The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath
Rebecca, by Daphne DuMaurier
The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger
The House on Mango Street, by Sandra Cisneros
Welcome to the Monkey House (short stories), by Kurt Vonnegut
1984, by George Orwell

I feel obligated to give some links regarding the literature and poetry stuff I like, so here:
