COMMUNITY AWARENESS MEETING

JULY 10, 2000

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Tim Burke. Attending the meeting were approximately 50 residents. Silver Springs manager Dave Bosek was unable to attend but did send his regrets.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read by resident Dawn Brewer.

Tim Burke addressed several issues from the June meeting.

There is a problem with adults and children using the unfenced area behind Arlington street as a shortcut into Silver Springs. This causes many problems for the residents of that street and the rest of the community. A petition has been drawn up describing those problems and requesting a solution. This petition will be available for anyone to sign until after the next meeting. If you wish to sign the petition contact Tim Burke or the office. The petition will then be given to Cummins Engine, the owners of that property.

A pay phone has been ordered and will be installed in the parking lot near the community building.

Adult volunteers are still needed for the picnic on August 12th. Volunteers are also needed for the dunk tank.

A video was shown of the Channel 2 news report by Franchon Singer about the excessive noise caused by the trains during the night. Ms.Stinger was contacted by John and Theresa Cantell. The Cantells have also contacted Lansing to see if anything could be done about this problem. Channnel 2 is still investigating and the Cantells will keep us informed as to any progress.

Forms are available in the office for any exterior improvements you wish to make on your homes. All outdoor improvements need to be approved by management. There is a possibility that there maybe a contest for the most attractive yard.

The motorcycle officer has now finished his training and will be in the community checking for speeding cars. He will have a Laser Radar Detector on his vehicle. It is unlikely that officers will ticket cars if the are only exceeding the speed limit by 5 miles.

Since a report has been made of marijuana usage at the basketball court, officers are taking a more active role in policing the area. They will be parking near that area and walking around and will be more visible so that this problem does not continue. Plain clothes officers will also frequent the area.

Meetings have been held between the management of Silver Springs and the Clinton Township Chief of Police. The police department is very supportive of this community and is willing to help with any problems as often as possible.

Last Saturday evening there was a problem with teenagers prowling the yards and setting off firecrackers. Both Tim Burke and a resident were in pursuit but the teens were not caught. If teens are caught out at night breaking curfew they will be taken to the police department, thier parents will be notified and they will be fined $50.00.

On 2 different days in the past week very young children were found wandering the community unsupervised. It took several hours to locate thier homes and the parents of these toddlers. There is NO tolerance for this type of occurrence. The police and child protective services will be called if children are found to be unsupervised.

It is in violation of park rules to not clean up after your dogs when you are walking them. If other peoples dogs are creating a problem in your yard, and you do not know who they are, take a picture of the offenders and give it to Tim Burke.

Please make sure any long grass is kept mowed around your homes because field mice may become a problem. Non traffic areas combined with tall weeds will draw the mice to your homes. Keep your yard trimmed and watered and occasionally walk around to keep the mice from burrowing throughout your yard. They will find ways into your home.

The electric boxes at the backs of the homes do not have locks on them and there has been an occasion where children have opened the boxes and shut power off to a home. Edison has been informed of this but residents may wish to put a lock on their own boxes.

Residents may not put thier trash out before Tuesday evening. Problems with the company that handles our trash removal are being handled. Last week the manager followed ESI Removal Company on their rounds and had them clean up problems that they caused.

There have been many problems with the company that handles our water contract. US Energy is based in Georgia and does not have extended hours or enough staff to take care of shut off problems directly. On some occasions water is shut off 3 days after the billing. Tim Burke has the authority to restore water to homes after bills have been paid. Many residents expressed disapproval with this company and want to know why our community has to deal with so many outside companies instead of being included with the city of Clinton Township.

Residents expressed an interest in having a meeting with the CEO for Rudgate Corporate Offices in order to recieve answers to some of our questions. We, as residents, would like to extend an invitation for a spokesperson of Rudgate to come to one of our community awareness meetings.

CPR and first aid classes are being offered to the community. Review and first time certifications are available. Adult, child and infant CPR are all available. Cards are issued at the end of the class session. Classes are composed of 8 to 10 students and will be held Tuesday and/or Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. Fees vary depending on which classes you wish to take. Sign-up sheets are available at the office.

Clubhouse rental fees have changed. A $100.00 security deposit is required, $15.00 is non-refundable. There is also an $8.00 per hour charge for the building attendant.

There was a suggestion that the community celebrate Halloween on the last Saturday of the month instead of on the actual date which does fall on a school night. Haunting the playground was also suggested.

We would like to see more community involvement and would appreciate any suggestions for extra speakers or ideas to help draw members of the community together. Future speakers for the meetings will include spokespersons from the Clinton Township Senior Citizens Center and the Family Youth Intervention Center. Some activities may be set up for the areas teens.

We would like to thank Sharon Duncan and John and Theresa Cantell for providing refreshments for our meeting.

This meeting adjourned at 8:45 p.m.

The next meeting will be on August 21, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at the Community Building.
