Community Awareness Meeting

October 17, 2000

This meeting was called to order by Tim Burke at 7:15 p.m. Present were approximately 50 residents, Community manager Dave Bosek, and guest speaker Officer Jodi Beetham from the Clinton Township Police Department.

Minutes from the previous meeting were read by resident Angela Vettralno.

On Devils/Angels Night there will be 5 staff members from Silver Springs patrolling the streets throughout the evening along with the Clinton Township police department. Anyone found walking after dusk will be stopped and questioned. If found to be non-residents of the community they will be escorted out and all residents will be escorted to thier homes. There will be No-nonsense, No-tolerance policy for that evening. If you suspect any problems call the office at 783-3474 or use the security pager at 704-6462. All members of the staff have radios to contact one another if a situation occurs. Please leave your porch lights on to avert any problems.

Officer Jodi Beetham reported that working on Devils Night was mandatory for all police oficers and they will be patrolling all evening. A Mcgruff Halloween Safety Video was shown. Please remind your children to trick-or treat safely. Travel in groups, only trick or treat at homes that are lighted, do not go into someones home, wear light colored clothing and use make-up instead of masks. Candy may be brought to the police department on 15 Mile Road between Gratiot and Harper to be checked. Neighborhood Watch/ 911 signs were distributed to be placed in the front windows of your home. These act as a deterrent to unlawful activities. If you would like one please contact the office. We received compliments and encouragement from the police department to continue working together as a community to keep problems to a minimum.

There will be a Halloween Open House at the community buiding from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Treats will be passed out and pictures will be taken for the newsletter.

The petition was again circulated for residents to sign for Cummins to extend the fence at the back of the community behind thier property. That petition will be taken to Cummins on Wednesday.

The installation of a new sales sign at the entrance has been delayed but should occur within the next few months.

Residents have spoken to Millenium Cable Company about the bad reception and the problem should be resolved within the next few weeks. In future there are supposed to be upgrades to our cable but no dates have been set as to when this will happen.

There will not be a pay-phone installed near the community building as was previously stated. It was determined to have too many problems and would be too costly.

If you have problems with ESI, our garbage removal company, contact them at 810-791-5458. Some of the problems we are having is speeding trucks and garbage left on the lawns and street, etc. Complaint letters may also be sent to Clinton Township Supervisor James Sinnamon - Civic Center 40700 Romeo Plank Road Clinton Township, Mich. 48038-2900. An alternate company was checked into but they do not have a contract with Clinton Township.

Parking on the street is still a problem. Tim handles this in 2 ways. 48 hour stickers are placed on the vehicles or violations are issued to the resident. Police can be involved and a tow truck will be utilized if necessary. Repeat offenders that blatantly disregard this rule will be handled by the office.

There have been problems in the last few weeks with fighting at the bus stop. There is NO tolerence at the bus stop for fighting or rough housing. Children were brought into the office and parents were called. A 2nd offense is enough to warrant removal of bus priveleges. Parents are responsible for thier childrens behavior and need to remind thier children to behave properly at the bus area and throughout the community while playing. Please tell your children that playing near the mailboxes is prohibited. If you see a problem that a parent may not be aware of, please inform them. If you do not know the child inform the office so it may be checked into.

The wooded areas around the community are checked often by Tim. Temporary fences are not feasible for the perimeters of the community.

Lumber for the bus shelter was to have been delivered last week. We are waiting for the contractor to complete this job.

Community Clean-up - Sheds are priority right now. Dave would like to thank those that have responded. Letters are sent out to those homes that need a shed and meetings are held at the office if necessary. FINAL notices will be issued.

Swings will be put in at the play area but a date is not set for when this wlll occur.

There were several children attending the meeting and this is encouraged. The children of the community need to be aware of what is discussed at the meetings also.

Most of the work that the contractors were hired for is completed so there should no longer be a speeding problem by the cement trucks near the dead end street.

Thanks again to the Cantells for providing refeshments. Thanks also to Natasha Botzen for bringing brownies.

This meeting adjourned at 8:40 p.m.
