On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy issued a challenge to the nation of "achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth." For the next eight years, thousands from NASA and the aerospace industry combined efforts to make this dream come true. On July 20, 1969, their efforts climaxed when Apollo 11 landed on the Moon. Astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. "Buzz" Aldrin set foot on the Moon at Mare Tranquilitatis (Sea of Tranquility). During their stay on the Moon, the astronauts set up scientific experiments, took photographs, and collected lunar samples. The mission ended on July 24, 1969, and was a great success. From 1969 to 1972, five more lunar landings were made.

The success of Apollo 11 is considered by many to be the greatest technological achievement ever accomplished by mankind. This website is deticated to that achievement: the flight of Apollo 11.
