In 1964, Clydebank (not to be confused with the club of the same name who competed in the Scottish League from 1914 to 1931) gained entry into the Scottish League by merging with East Stirlingshire and playing at New Kilbowie park as 'E.S.Clydebank'. The following season, the arrangement between the clubs came to an end and East Stirlingshire moved back to Firs Park. Both clubs, however, retained their status as Scottish League members. East Fife played two league matches against the combined side in season 1964/65; a 2-1 victory in their first encounter at New Kilbowie followed by a 0-0 draw at Bayview. The first meeting between East Fife and Clydebank following 'shire's move back to Falkirk was a 3-1 league victory for the Fifers at Bayview on 7 September 1966.

There have been no meetings of any great importance between the sides, but the two legs of the Spring Cup quarter-final in season 1975/76 (results not included in the above statistics) are worth mentioning. Clydebank won the first leg 1-0 at New Kilbowie on 21 April 1976 and a Derek O'Connor goal gave East Fife a 1-0 victory at Bayview on the following Saturday in front of a 2,257 crowd. After 30 minutes of extra time produced no further goals, the 'Bankies' won the penalty shoot-out 4-2.

After having had severe financial problems for several years, the 'Bankies' were bought over by Airdrie United (the club that rose from the ashes of Airdrieonians) just before the start of the 2002/03 season and the Clydebank name once again disappeared from the Scotttish League.
