The first meeting between East Fife and St Mirren (apart from a friendly at Bayview in 1904 when Saints fielded a reserve side) was a First Division encounter at Love Street on 4 October 1930 which St Mirren won 2-0. East Fife's record against the 'Buddies' in all three main competitions is not good, as can be seen from the above tables and there have been no matches of any great importance in the two cup competitions. All Scottish Cup meetings between the pair have been in the third round and the only games played in the League Cup were the home and away first round sectional matches in 1975.
Three East Fife v St Mirren matches are worthy of note. Bayview legend Tommy Adams made his East Fife debut in a 6-1 defeat versus St Mirren at Bayview on 10 August 1935. On 28 August 1948, a new crowd record of 15,700 paid to watch East Fife beat St Mirren 3-1 at Bayview in what was their second home league match after promotion to the top flight. This figure is, of course, well down on the eventual ground record of 22,515 set against Raith Rovers in January 1950. Following a 2-1 reverse against St Mirren at Bayview on 29 March 1958, East Fife Manager Jerry Dawson parted company with the club 'by mutual agreement'. According to the club, this result had 'virtually relegated East Fife' to the Second Division, although it was to take a 2-0 defeat at Dens Park on the very last day of the season (five matches later) before relegation was confirmed.
