The Run of Play: East Fife played well during the first half, but went in at the interval 1-0 down to a Dixie Deans goal scored after 21 minutes. Just after the restart Billy McPhee equalised from the penalty spot, then in 51 minutes Walter Borthwick put East Fife in front (at which point several young East Fife supporters jumped over the and danced around on the pitch!). After intense pressure from Celtic, Kenny Dalglish went clear through in 70 minutes, but dithered too long and his soft shot was saved on the line by defender Duncan. Murdoch put the ball high over the bar from the resulting penalty. The referee ordered a re-take as there were East Fife players in the box - and Ernie McGarr saved with his foot. With 7 minutes to go Davie Clarke brought down Deans in the box and McGarr saved again, this time from Dalglish. With two minutes to go Deans squeezed a header just inside the post for the equaliser.

Walter Borthwick (out of picture) scores East Fife's second goal in 51 minutes to give the Fifers a 2-1 lead. The players pictured are (left to right): Hegarty, Quinn, Hunter and Callaghan
