The most significant encounter between East Fife and Forfar Athletic is probably the League Cup Quarter Final in September 1949, played over two legs. East Fife legend Tommy Adams, who had left Bayview to join the 'Loons' at the start of the season, played in both matches. East Fife won the first leg 3-1 at Station Park on 17 September with two goals from Morris and a single counter from Black. Tommy Adams scored Forfar's only goal, which was cheered as much by the East Fife supporters as it was by the home crowd! In the second leg at Bayview four days later, goals from Morris (2), Brown (2) and Davidson saw East Fife win the match 5-1 to go through 8-2 on aggregate. The Fifers proceeded to win the trophy that season by defeating Rangers 2-1 in the Semi Final and Dunfermline Athletic 3-0 in the Final.
Also worth mentioning is the Forfar Athletic v East Fife Scottish Cup first round tie scheduled for 30 January 1937. The match was cancelled due to snow after the East Fife players had arrived at Station Park. On their return journey, the team bus got stuck along with other vehicles in five foot snow drifts. After attempting to dig the vehicle out, the players gave up and set out on foot for Tealing (about a mile away) through snow which was never less than a foot deep. Here they managed to board a service 'bus bound for Dundee and eventually managed to make their way home. East Fife won the re-scheduled match 3-0 the following Thursday.
