Nithsdale Wanderers hailed from the small town of Sanquhar, 27 miles north of Dumfries. The club were admitted to the Scottish League when the Third Division was formed in 1923. Wanderers won the Third Division Championship in their second league season, which led to their first ever meeting with East Fife on 14 November 1925 at their home ground of Crawick Holm. This inaugural meeting between the sides resulted in a 3-3 draw. Wanderers paid their first visit to Methil on 24 April 1926 and were beaten 4-2 in front of a crowd of 2,000. 'Only a handful of spectators' witnessed Wanderers' 3-1 victory over the Fifers at Crawick Holm in November 1926 and the fourth and final match between the sides was a 5-3 victory for East Fife at Bayview in March 1927. Nithsdale Wanderers finished bottom of the Second Division in season 1926/27 and failed to gain re-election to the league (the Third Division had ceased operating at the end of season 1925/26) presumably due to their pitifully low attendances.
