On 29 October 1949 East Fife and Dunfermline Athletic contested the League Cup Final at Hampden Park in front of a disappointing crowd of 38,897. Goals from Charlie Fleming, Davie Duncan and Henry Morris won the match 3-0 for East Fife and the cup came to Methil for the second time. Four years later in September 1953, the pair met again in the latter stages of the League Cup, when East Fife recorded a 9-4 aggregate Quarter Final win over the 'Pars' on their way to winning the trophy for the third time. Before both clubs were admitted to the Scottish League in 1921 (Dunfermline were also league members for three seasons from 1912-1915), the teams played each other regularly in the Eastern, Northern and Central Leagues as well as the Penman Cup, Fife Cup, Fife League, Wemyss Cup, friendlies and charity matches. During the Second World War both sides competed in the North Eastern League.
