The 'Blue Toon' entered the Scottish League at the start of season 2000/01. East Fife's first competitive match with the Balmoor Stadium side was on 12 August 2000 at Bayview Stadium when the points were shared in a Division Three match which finished 1-1. East Fife's first visit to Balmoor Stadium was 21 October 2000, when the league points were again shared in a no scoring draw. East Fife's first win over the 'Blue Toon' came on 24 February 2001 on a snow covered Bayview, where the Fifers triumphed 2-1. In the fourth and final meeting between the sides on 28 April 2001, the north-east side recorded their first ever competitive win over East Fife by beating them 2-1 at Balmoor Stadium.

The only other match which has ever been played between the two sides was a friendly on 10 October 1959 at Peterhead's old ground, Recreation Park, where the home side won 2-0.
