East Fife and Stenhousemuir were regular opponents in the Central League before both clubs were admitted to the Scottish League in 1921. The two sides also met in the Penman Cup in the early days and East Fife won the trophy for the first time after defeating the 'Warriors' 2-1 in the second replay of the Final at Brockville on Monday 3 January 1911. The first two matches of the marathon Final were played at North End Park, Cowdenbeath, and at Recreation Park, Lochgelly. The trophy was presented to East Fife in front of a large crowd outside the White Swan Hotel, Methil, on the Saturday following the third match.
On 11 March 1950, goals from Morris (2) and Duncan gave East Fife a 3-0 win over Stenhousemuir at Ochilview in the Quarter Final of the Scottish Cup. The Fifers went on to beat Partick Thistle in the Semi Final before losing to Rangers in the Final. The only other meeting between the sides in the Scottish Cup is also worth mentioning. On 8 February 1956 Bayview became the first ground to host a floodlit Scottish Cup tie, beating Hibernian v Raith Rovers at Easter Road by only fifteen minutes! Unfortunately for East Fife, the Warriors spoiled the party by recording a shock 3-1 victory over their First Division opponents.
On 12 April 1975, East Fife won a place in the First Division of the re-organised Scottish League by beating Stenhousemuir 1-0 at Ochilview. Harry Kinnear was on the mark for the Fifers.
