Corydoras Corner- Introduction

Introduction

Welcome to the provocative world of the Corydoras catfish. In general, Corydoras are the most popular small-sized catfish in the world. Is that enough? Well, for a closer examination, let's take a look at the family tree:

Class Osteichthyes (Hard boned fish)
Order Siluriiformes (Catfish)
Family Corydoradinae (The family of corydoras)
Genus Corydoras
Genus Brochis
Genus Aspidoras

Corydoras are very timid, bottom dwelling fish in the aquarium. They are very peaceful fish and will not attack other fish. On the other hand, most fish will not attack them, unless in the case of Piranha, Carnivores, or a pair of spawning cichlids! Of course, I advise you not to keep meat-devouring fish with corydoras! They constantly dig in the gravel in search of food, and the barbels at the end of their mouths aid in search of food in the wild. In the aquarium, the food is usually replaced by fast sinking tablets, or flakes. Temperature adaptibility is very impressive, with a freezing 18 degrees Centigrade to a 28 degrees. They are very easy to keep, but breeding is difficult. Also watch out for nitrate levels, since nitrate sinks at the bottom of the tank, and Corydoras dwell at the bottom. For size, they range from 4- 8 cm. I find them very cute, and if you have kept them, I think you will feel the same way too! Anyways, these topics will be discussed in other topics on this page, so I won't make a big deal out of this. Send your comments to the Cory- Bulletin Board at: sheen@diamond.mse.nthu.edu.tw, and if you're lucky, your comments will be posted on! Please be sure to visit the other attractions!
