Born: John Richard Checkett on May 30, 1940 to the late Melvin Checkett and Mary Checkett of St. Louis, Mo. He married Martha Marlin and survivors are his daughter Laura, Son-In-Law, James Herr, sons, Richard and Bradley, their mother, Martha of Portland, Oregon; his mother, Mary, brothers Melvin and Michael, their wives, Pat and Chris, neices and nephews Lynn, Susie, Laura, Ryan of St.Louis and John, Barbro, their two sons of Phoenix, AZ.
John received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree from Harris College and Masters Degree from St. Louis University, St. Louis, MO. He completed a fellowship at Stanford University School of Business under the Education for Public Management Programs. He taught school at Herzog Elementary School in North St. Louis before entering Federal Government service as an Education and Training Specialist with the United States Department of Defense. He then transferred to the Defense Department's Office of Contract Compliance, where he subsequently served as Chief of Operations for the Eastern Division, Kansas City Region. In 1987, John was transferred to the Department of Labor Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) and was appointed to the position of Director, St.Louis Field Office. In 1980, he accepted the position of Director for the Portland, OR. District Office. In December, 1984, John was selected for the Assistant Regional Administrator for the OFCCP, Chicago Region and in September, 1990, he became the Regional Director for the Seattle Region. In March, 1997, John was appointed as the National Ombudsman for OFCCP, National Office, Washington, D.C.
He was a cousin, nephew, spouse, father, dear friend and honored colleague.
He also was a talented tennis and golf companion to many.
