John Checkett
A service will be Saturday, March 10, 2001,
in Seattle for John Checkett, who died
Feb. 28 of cancer at age 60.
Mr. Checkett was born May 30, 1940, in St. Louis.
He graduated from Harris Teachers College in St. Louis
and was an elementary school teacher for a short time.
He received a master's degree from Saint Louis
University in 1968 and worked for the Department of Defense and later for the Department of Labor.
He became an area director for the
Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program
and moved to Portland in 1981.
In 1984, he transferred to Chicago and later
moved to Seattle where he worked as
an ombudsman for the Department of Labor.
He returned to Portland in October for
medical reasons.
In 1964, he married Martha Marlin;
they later divorced.

Survivors his sons, Richard and Bradley;
daughter, Laura Herr; mother, Mary;
and brothers, Melvin and Michael.

Disposition is by cremation.
The Family suggests remembrances to
Saint Louis University.

Mr. Checkett was born May 30, 1940, in St. Louis. He worked as an ombudsman for the Department of Labor. He married Martha Marlin and survivors include sons, Richard and Bradley; daughter Laura Herr; mother, Mary; and brothers, Melvin and Michael.
