According to Gjessing’s finding, there was an abnormal nitrogen balance with periodic catatonia, and associated with nitrogen retention and increased excretion even reduce protein intake.

Is that found in all schizophrenic type, has to be proved. In this opportunity it will be examined in some schizophrenic patients in Psychiatric Unit in Sardjito Hospital.

There were 32 schizophrenic patients with average urine volume in 24 hours 1060 ml lesser than the normal (1200 ml). The mean of total urine N is 7.30 mg/ml and 8.03 mg/ml in schizophrenia with positive and negative symptoms dominant respectively, significantly higher than the normal value (3.5 mg/ml) by using that all subject with normal kidney function. So that the increasing of Total Urine N may be caused by neurotransmitter metabolites.
