THESE DRIVERS ARE NOT OFFICIAL CREATIVE LABS DRIVERS...           
NOR ARE OFFICIAL 3DFX REFERENCE DRIVERS...                                     

For some time now Creative Labs has ceased to support the 3DBlaster Banshee card. I have emailed them too many times and did not receive a single answer concerning the lack of new drivers.
I used 3DFX reference drivers as well as many "hacked" drivers like Maverick's, Bansheezone and Chris'. The all offered better performance but lacked in means of a decent control panel, an easy installation(I got really tired of manually removing the drivers to use new ones, got tired of windows telling me that the drivers I am using are not made for my card as if it new better, got tired of all the reboots...)and the choice of a slider in the control panel for overclocking...
I never really managed to successfully overclock my card by tweaking the Banshee registry settings. Almost all my attempts failed. On the other hand when using the slider(moved all the way to the left at 125Mhz) I got better benchmark results and not a single hang.
On top of that most of the time I use 32bit colour desktop. The notepad bug makes 32bit colour unusable. 
All these things made me compile my own set of drivers.
They offer the ease of a single(ok double :) click install, fast 2D,3D performance, OpenGL support, DirectX 7 compatible, NO NOTEPAD BUG(the only ones around) in 32bit colour, more or less they are how creative's drivers would have looked like if creative hadn't adopted an ignore policy on all Banshee users...
The only con of the drivers is they are not as fast in DX7 applications (I get 1248 3dMarks in 3DMark2000 at 1024x768 with my pci banshee). If you want the absolute fastest drivers go for Chris' drivers(about 30 3DMarks more but with a lot of visual tearing)...
Another thing as far as overclocking is concerned. If you want to overclock your creative banshee card put a fan on top of the heatsink. The banshee gets REALLY hot. An old 486 (remember those CPUs???) fan should do the work(fits my banshee great...). Just screw the fan on top of the heatsink...Cheap and fast solution. 
If you play OpenGl games like Quake 3 it would be a GREAT choice to download and install wickedGl drivers. As far as I know they are faster than the minigl drivers...

Well I heard people telling me that they got better results with the 3dfx ICD instead of wickedGl. That maybe true cause 3DFX has been working a lot on that...Try both and keep the driver that gives your system the best results.
