June's Muff

{This pattern was designed and donated by Ellen in Oregon for my "Mittens & Muffs for Nursing Homes" special project. Thank you so much Ellen.}

Hi Dealena,
I designed a muff pattern for you.

June's Muff (named for my grandmother, who spent the last 6 years of her life in a nursing home)

Materials:
2-1/2 ozs. worsted weight yarn;
size G (4.50 MM) hook.

Finished size: 6" x 17"

FIRST CUFF

Row 1: Ch 14, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 11 ch; ch 2, turn (12).

Row 2: Hdc in the back loop of each hdc across; ch 2, turn.

Repeat row 2 for a total of 22 rows, or until cuff is approx. 8" long. End with an even numbered row, do not turn. Rotate cuff to work across ends of rows.

MUFF

Row 1: 2 hdc in end of each row; ch 2, turn (44).

Row 2: Hdc in each hdc across (both loops); ch 2, turn.

Repeat row 2 for a total of 57 rows, or until the muff is approx. 12" long (measured from row 1). End with an odd number row, ch 14.

SECOND CUFF

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in next 11 ch (12); now working on last row of muff, pull up a loop in the next 4 sts; yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook; do not chain, turn.

Row 2: Now working on cuff again; skip stitch you just completed, hdc in each hdc on cuff; ch 2, turn (12).

Row 3: Hdc in each hdc across up to muff (12)

[note: the last stitch is difficult to find; you'll have to dig for it!]

Now working on last row of muff, pull up a loop in the next 4 sts; yo and pull through all 5 loops on hook; do not chain, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 across muff. At end of last row, fasten off, leaving a 24" yarn end for sewing; sew seam and weave in all ends.

Hugs, Ellen in Oregon
