Beithe:(The Birch)

O birch,smooth and blessed

thou melodious,proud one,

delightful each entwining branch

in the top of thy crown.

"Buile Suibhne Geilt:
The Frenzy of Mad Sweeney"

The birch's place at the
start of the Tree Ogham
serves to set everything
else in motion and in its
correct order. Throughout
rebirth,it is a tree of
physical sacrifice,Which
brings forth new life that
will regenerate itself and
place it back at the beginning
of things

The birch represents a new beginning and new opportunities. The name for the birch in the Ogham is Beithe, this has two meanings in Gaelic. It can mean "being," in the sense of the verb to be, and it is also a noun meaning "a being."

It is a tree of Venus; the juice of the leaves, while they are young, or the distilled water of them, or the water that comes from the tree being bored with an auger, and distilled afterwards; any of these being drank for some days together, is available to break the stone in the kidneys and bladder, and is good also to wash sore mouths.
