Julián Orbón was born in España in 1925. He grew up in Cuba before settling in the United States. He was very interested in the Catholic liturgy, and especially Gregorian chant. He died in 1991.
Tres Versiones Sinfonicas, written in 1953. A String Quartet written in 1951, followed in 1958 by a Concerto Grosso for String Quartet and Orchestra.
The Cuarteto Latinoamericano [Latin American String Quartet] has recorded both Orbón’s String Quartet (on an Elan CD) and the Concerto Grosso, accompanied by the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela conducted by Eduardo Mata (on a Dorian CD).
