What's the "DMATU" ? Besides being my new first MUNI, "DMATU" stands for D.M. All Terrain Unicycle. It is essentially a Mountain Unicycle, but since Pashley bagged and copyrighted "MUni", a DMATU (say Dee-Matu) is what it is. This DMATU was the first of many, and (in Roger Davies' words) provided a new Mountain Unicycle for the Market, at the time it lay between the Pashley MUni and Roger Davies' Carbon Fibre Unicycles. But since then times have moved on. There are many more off road unicycles on the market, check unicycle.com! Moreover the DMATU has developed too. It now sports pretty much unbreakable BMX splinned cranks amongst other features. The DMATU has also a friend - the Vortex, DM's top piece of off road kit that'll set you back a bit!Tell me about your DMATU Simon: I like to think of myself as quite a practical kind of guy, but lets face it when it comes to building a unicycle you'd have to have all the kit (welding gear, lathes etc) to do a damn good job. Since I'm lucky enough to live 40 Minutes drive from D.M. I went there to have a chat with the man himself, Dave Mariner, about the specification. The DMATU is basically D.M's Ringmaster Pro in a 26" guise.. In a about two weeks time it was made, it really is superb, the workmanship and attention to detail is top quality.DMATU Tech Bits and Pieces: I provided him with a Bontrager Clysdale 48 Hole Tandem Rim (my theory is rims made for two people on two wheels should be right for one person on one wheel). For me, its the mother of all rims, claiming to have some of the strongest lateral forces. |

I gave the instructions that I wanted a good frame clearance for a nice chunky tyre - I chose a Vredstein K-Nobs. Because a) It sounded like a damn good tyre b) Its blue and black. |

And here it is, in full glory, another unicycle bought into the world by the hands of DM. I could have chosen any colour, but I went for the chrome plating for durability, I think it looks cool too. For you weight crazy fanatics, the damage is 6.1Kg, giving a rider to uni ratio of 15:1. |

Ride it ? Since I took all these pictures I have put the Vredestein MTB tyre on and it looks like an absolute beast. On the 13th/14th June 1998, we took part in the Summer Polaris. But when I hacked this page out, we hadn't done the Polaris, so I had a go in the office: |

What does a DMATU cost ? Well, considering the quality and workmanship, I think its a bargain, and you can choose you spec to use cheaper tyres, pedals or whatever: |
