Mary Fox, daughter of Emanuel and Catherine, married John
Carnes, son of Hubbard Carnes and Dicy Robertson.  John
was a Union veteran, serving with Company K of the 2nd
Tennessee Cavalry.  He listed his profession as tanner in the
1860 census.  Mary and John were married in Harrisburg and
lived on Pigeon River.  After Mary’s death, John may have
married Catharine Mize (30 Oct 1834-26 Mar 1919).  John
and Mary’s children were:

1. Caloway H. Carnes (24 Jan 1860-25 May 1928) married
Trephena E. ?  (13 Jan 1878-4 Jul 1952).  They are buried in
Shiloh Cemetery.  Their children were John, Willie, Jennie,
Eddie, Marcie or Mattie, Mary, Lon or Lou and Deamer.

2. Dicy Jane Carnes (28 Feb 1862-7 Jun 1887) married
Samuel Henderson (18 Dec 1852-18 May 1934).    Dicy died
one day after her first child’s birth.   Samuel later married
Sallie R. Runyan.  They are buried in Shiloh Cemetery. 
Child: Dicy Jane Henderson Hatcher (6 Jun 1887-25 Sep
1963 Shiloh Cemetery).

3. Catherine A. Carnes, born about 1866.  She married H.C.
Catlett 30 Jul 1888.

4. James Brownlow Carnes (10 Apr 1867-24 Apr 1940)
married Clara V. Lovelady (9 Jul 1871-5 Mar 1932) on 8 Sep
1888.  They are buried in Shiloh Cemetery.  Children: Mary
L. 1889, Frank M. 1890-1926, Louvia or Lonvia W. 1898,
Joseph R. 1906, Nettie M. 1907-1925.  He was a retired
stationary fireman for the L&N Railroad.

5. Martha R. Carnes (25 Dec 1869-12 Dec 1931) married a
Holt.  Mattie is buried in Shiloh Cemetery.

6. John Leonroe Carnes (30 Dec 1872-14 Apr 1912) is buried
in Shiloh Cemetery.

7. Mary Malissa (or A. Mollie) Carnes (2 Mar 1875-8 Apr
1937 Florida) Married Y.J. (Young John) Shultz (4 Feb
1888-26 Mar 1949).  They are buried in Shiloh Cemetery. 
Children: Herbert, George E., Wanda, Ben and Hugh.

8. Walter Jennings Carnes (2 Oct 1877-12 Jul 1954) married
Rhoten Vany Wear (28 Jan 1880-2 Dec 1959).  He served in
the Spanish American War (Pvt. Co. H, 3rd Regiment,
Tennessee Infantry).  They are buried in Shiloh Cemetery. 
Children:  Herman 1902-1978, Samuel 1905-1969, Mary
Adra 1907-1960, Robert Massey 1910-1973, Warren Bird
1912-1961, Johnnie Joan 1915, Henry Albert 1919-1999,
Ruth Margaret 1921-1997, Paul  Coolidge 1924-1982.

9. Elbert Clark Carnes (5 Mar 1881-4 Dec 1955).  He is
buried in Shiloh Cemetery.

Note:  There are stones in the Shiloh Cemetery for Catherine
Mize Carnes (30 Oct 1834-26 Mar 1919) and Catherine Mize
Runyun (same dates).  The Carnes stone indicate that
Catherine was the wife of J.H. Runyun and J.H. Carnes.  The
Runyun stone indicates that she was the wife of J.H. Runyun
and J.H. Conner.  Reference: “In the Shadows of the
