The ABCs of Sunnydale

Wendell:

Debut -- Nightmares (Season 1)

Last Seen -- Same Episode

Wendell's first seen in the classroom being chided by Cordelia for being in her light. He and Xander exchange a few one-liners when Buffy and Willow appear. When Wendell's asked to read something, he opens up his book and a bunch of big, hairy spiders begin crawling out of the textbook. Everyone in the class shrieks. Later, Buffy, Willow, and Xander go to talk to Wendell to see if they can find out more about this unusual occurrence. It turns out that Wendell's been plagued by nightmares of spiders ever since his brother was responsible for accidentally killing all of the species in his spider collection. Wendell seems like a pretty decent sort, yet he's never been seen since this episode.

Most Amusing Line:
"I'm so ashamed."
-- said mockingly when Xander tells the girls that Wendell was in Cordelia's light.

Watcher, LA (aka The Walrus):

Debut -- Becoming part I (Season 2)

Last Seen -- Same Episode

Buffy's first Watcher -- or at least the first person who informed her of her unique status -- is seen in a flashback in part 1 of the second season finale. Although he's seen briefly, he plays an important role in Buffy's past, and I guess, her life overall.

He approaches Buffy while she's sitting on the stairs outside of her school in LA, and after making a quick identification inquiry, he cuts to the chase. I call him The Walrus because of his mustache. He looks pretty affable. I'm also including his entire exchange with Buffy, just because, how would you feel if it happened to you?

Keep in mind that Angel, aka Stink-Guy, is watching this unfold.

Dropping a Bombshell:
Watcher: "Buffy Summers?"
Buffy:  "Yeah. Hi. What?"
Watcher: "I need to speak with you."
Buffy:  "You're not from Bullock's, are you? 'cause I meant to pay for that lipstick."
Watcher: "There isn't much time. You must come with me. Your destiny awaits."
Buffy:  "I don't have a destiny. I'm destiny-free, really."
Watcher: "Yes, you have. You are the Chosen One. You alone can stop them."
Buffy:  "Who?"
Watcher: "The vampires."
Buffy:  "Huh?"
-- let that sink in for a minute.

After Buffy kills a vampire her first time out, Walrus says to her, "You see? You see your power?"

This watcher guy hasn't been mentioned by name in the series, and it's also possible that he's dead. Dunno. I wouldn't mind seeing him again, though. Or at least hearing about him. Or something.
