Richie Havens, one of the elder statesmen of the folk world, took the Wolf Den stage and delighted an audience of his loyal followers. He was aptly accompanied by a second guitarist and a percussionist who successfully rounded out his sound.

Richie began his set with the familair chords of Dylan's "All Along The Watchtower." His distinctive voice and style, which is his trademark, was in fine form tonight as he worked his way through several of his classic interpretations including "Just Like A Woman" and "Here Comes The Sun." The climax of his set was certainly his woodstock-inspired, and penned, "Freedom," in which he always manages to create a sort of emotional whirlwind that the entire audience can't help but become a part of. This is Richie Havens at his purest and it's what brings back his fans time and time again. There's a certain honesty to a Richie Havens performance that's lacking in so many performances today. Richie returned for two encores, the last of which was an acapella version of "You Are So Beautiful." His fans went home happy and wished him many fine returns.

The Wolf Den is a well thought out lounge and I found it to be a very enjoyable concert space. It is located in the middle of a casino and slot machine noises occasionally interupt the quiet moments of the performance. I'd like to note however that I found the staff to be very friendly, helpful, and professional. It's not your usual setting for a folk concert but thoroughly enjoyable nonetheless.
