On the right is a picture of Urquhart Castle. This famous castle sits high about Loch Ness,
perhaps the single best known place in all of Scotland. The ruins that you see are the
remains of the castle that was built on the site in the 13th century. The castle was used as
a storehouse for gunpowder and munitions during the war in the early 1690's. In 1692 the
castle was blown up to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Jacobites. All very
exciting stuff!
The castle is also one of the most famous spots for sighting the famous Loch Ness
Monster. As I have said, I grew up here and have never seen anything. But I do know
people that have seen something. And who am I to say they did not see a forty foot sea
monster? Who knows what lurks in the icy depth of this ancient loch?
