__________________ Driver Dies of Injuries [John Earl Bedingfield]
	A 45-year-old Lubbock man injured in an auto-bus accident July 5 north of Tahoka died Saturday night at Methodist Hospital. John Earl Bedingfield of 4519 47th St., died about 8:30 p.m. in the hospital's intensive care unit where he had been a patient since the accident. Bedingfield suffered serious head injuries when his car and a bus operated by the Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma Bus Lines, Inc. collided 10 miles north of Tahoka about 1:50 a.m. July 5. He was the only occupant of the auto. Five passengers of the bus suffered minor injuries. Survivors include a son, John Lyne Bedingfield of Lubbock; a brother, James Paul Bedingfield of Lubbock; two sisters, Mrs. Gene Boling of Las Cruces, N.M., and Mrs. Lyman Abell of Ralls; and his mother, Mrs. Layton Bedingfield of Lubbock. Services are pending at Resthaven Funeral Home.

	Funeral services for Paul Bedingfield, 62, will be conducted at 2p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ at Ralls with Charlie Watkins officiating. Marr Funeral Home of Ralls is in charge of arrangements. A pioneer resident of Crosby County, Bedingfield died of a heart ailment early Saturday at Brownwood Memorial Hospital. He had lived at Brownwood about 10 years. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Layton Bedingfield; four children, John and Jo Ann of Brownwood, Mrs. Alfred Jones of San Antonio and James Paul of the U. S. Navy; two brothers, Frank of Albuquerque and John of California; and one sister, Mrs. Claud Scott of Lorenzo.

	Ralls (Special)--Services for Lenna O. Benton, 95, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Emma Church of Christ with Loy Hardesty, pastor, and Horace Coffman, minister of Broadway Church of Christ in Lubbock, officiating. Burial will be in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Cater-Adams Funeral Home. She died at 4:25 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Hospital after a lengthy illness. She married David L. Benton on July 14, 1909. He died in 1954. She was the oldest member of the Emma Church of Christ. She lived in the Ralls Nursing Home. He moved to Crosby County in 1923. He graduated from Ralls High School, and he married Jewell Brown on May 12, 1928, in Ralls. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He owned P. H. Benton Sons Trucking Co. in Lubbock. He retired in 1964. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Hal Benton and Ennis Gaylon, both of Lubbock, and Gene Benton of Springfield, Ore.; a brother, Charles of Roswell, N.M., three sisters, Anna Benton and Margaret Moore, both of Ralls and Lucille Pace of Idalou; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren. 	Ralls (Special)--Services for Tom Ed Benton, 80, of Ralls will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Emma Church of Christ with Dennis May, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Carter-Adams Funeral Home of Ralls. He died at 5 a.m. Saturday in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Floydada and moved to Ralls earlier this year, moving from Hart. He married Jimmie Botkins on Sept. 18, 1929, in Clovis, N.M. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He was involved in the grocery/drug store business and farming. He was tax assessor for the White River Municipal Water Agency and was business manager/tax assessor for the Hart School District. He attended Texas Christian University. He was preceded in death by a grandson on July 30, 1989. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Billie Anderson of Ralls; one brother, David L. 	Post (Special)--Mrs. Emma Leone Blanton, 76-year-old former Lubbock resident, died at 6 a.m. Sunday at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Victor Hudman, following an illness of about two years. Funeral services are scheduled in Lubbock at the Caprock Church of Christ, with the minister, Hugh Clark, officiating. Services will be at 4 p.m. today. Burial will be in the City of Lubbock Cemetery and nephews will be pallbearers. Born in Coleman County, Mrs. Blanton moved to Post to live with her daughter about two months ago. She and her husband, D. Y Blanton, who died in 1957, moved to Lubbock in 1945. Mr. and Mrs. Blanton were married Dec. 28, 1905, at Old Emma, then the county seat of Crosby County. They participated in the organization of the Old Emma Church of Christ. Hudman Funeral Home here took the body to Sanders Funeral Home in Lubbock Sunday night. Survivors include another daughter, Mrs. H. T. Wiley, Lubbock; two sons, Lloyd B. Blanton, Dimmitt, and David Blanton, Lubbock; two sisters, Mrs. Eula Barnowsky, Fort Worth, and Mrs. J. M. She had been a secretary for the medical partnership of Dr. O. W. English and Dr. Ewell Hunt. She had also worked for the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department and Hemphill-Wells Department Store, retiring in 1976. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include two sisters, Lois Chance and Juanita Moncrief, both of Lubbock; and four brothers, L. W. He married Winifred Gower on June 1, 1935, in Lubbock. He had managed the body shop for Scoggin-Dickey Buick in Lubbock. He was a member of the Church of Christ. 	Crosbyton (Special)--Lewis W. Chance, 82, pioneer Crosby County resident and builder of the first home in the townsite of Ralls, died at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Crosbyton Clinic-Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted in the Crosbyton Church of Christ at 4 p.m. today, with Carl Maples, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Rall [sic] Cemetery under the direction of the King Funeral Home. The Old Emma Masonic Lodge of Ralls will conduct graveside services. Longtime Resident Chance, born in Leisburg March 3, 1878, came to Crosby County in 1904 and settled at Old Emma. He later moved to Ralls and was a resident of Crosby County until his death. He was a member of the Crosby Chamber of Commerce, for many years chairman of the Crosby County Parole Board, percinct [sic] chairman of the Demorcratic [sic] party at Ralls for a long period of time, and a member of the Old Emma Masonic Lodge at Ralls. He was married to Mattie Benton at Old Emma in 1909. She died in 1948. He subsequently was married to Mary Lee Coffee in 1949. Survivors names Chance is survived by his wife, Mary Lee; four daughters, Miss Lois Chance, Crosbyton; Mrs. Louise Callaghan, Lubbock; Mrs. Juanita Moncrief, Dallas; and Mrs. Frances Whatford, Panama City, Fla.; five sons, L. 	A closed-casket Service for Billy Don Ellerd, 36, was held Oct. 7, 1987 at 2:00 p.m. at the Wheeler Starlight Chapel in Portales, N.M. with Cecil Bunch and Condy Billingsley officiating. Burial was in Portales Cemetery, in Portales, N.M., next to his brother, Jack, under direction of Wheeler Mortuary. Ellerd was born in Levelland, Tex., April 26, 1951. He was reared in Portales and graduated from Portales High School, and then graduated from Eastern New Mexico University. He moved to California, where he lived for eight years, and it was in San Jose, California that he met Delta Delacruz. In 1981, they returned to Ruidoso and in 1984 the couple moved to Rio Rancho, and their home had been there since that time. He died in Albuquerque, N.M., October 3, 1987. The death was the result of injuries received in a wreck south of Albuquerque Saturday evening. Ellerd's working life was spent in carpentry and construction work. He was also a member of the Church of Christ. Pallbearers were Clenon Cox, Bill Ragland, Mike Sturdevant, But Queener, Fred Schumbert and Lowell Primrose. He is survived by his girlfriend, Delta Delacruz; one son, Ivan Shane Ellerd, one daughter, Salina Deve' Ellerd, both of the family home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ellerd, Clovis, N.M.; one brother, Melvin Bruce Ellerd, Big Rapids, Mich.; and two sisters, Marilyn Frances Townsend, Los Lunas, N.M., and Carolyn Jean Ellerd, Alamogordo; his grandmother, Mrs.; Hulda Ellerd, Portales; and other relatives. _____________________________________ Charlie Hinson Passes Away Sunday Evening
	Charlie Hinson, aged 45, and a prominent farmer living seven miles west [sic] of town, died at the family home Sunday [5 NOV 1939] evening at 6:15 o'clock. He was and [sic] ex-service man and had been ill for the greater part of a year with cancer of the stomach, and was for a time in the Veterans Hospital at Albuquerque, later on the Pacific Coast and in other hospitals where everything possible was done to arrest the ravages of his affliction. He was one of those pathetic cases in which the victim is told that there is no hope, but he fought valiantly to the end, trying any practitioner who promised help. Mr. Hinson was a loyal member of the local Legion post and took an active interest in community affairs. He was a native of Red River County, but came to the Plains with his parents in 1910, locating at Ralls when the town was first established, and he might be called a pioneer citizen of the section. He was married in 1916 to Miss Neda [sic] Smith of the Ralls community. He came to Hockley about eight years ago, buying one of the best improved farms in this section where he had since made his home. He is survived by his wife, four sons and five daughters, Charles Edwin, David Lee, Eugene, and Jack; Mamye Elizabeth, Nelda Frances, Martha Juanita, Mary Sue, and Patsy Charlene. He also has two sisters, Mrs. Paul Bedingfield of Lorenzo, and another living in El Paso. The funeral was held Monday at 4 o'clock from the Christian Church at Ralls, the service being conducted by Rev. Travis of the Baptist Church, assisted by the Christian pastor. The active pallbearers were: T. I. Robinson, B. M. Crabtree, H. E. Clingan, Bert Eads, J. L. Smallwood, and Earl Bartlett; while the honorary pallbearers named were Henry Cunningham, Chas. Mikeal, John Holland, Guy Lowry, and Pat Murphy. Both groups were from Levelland and members of the Legion Post. 	Services for David Lee Hinson, 58, of Levelland will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the George C. Price Funeral Chapel with Dr. J. Harold Cates, pastor of First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Ralls Cemetery under the direction of George C. Price Funeral Directors. Mr. Hinson died about 3 p.m. Thursday in Veterans Hospital in Albuquerque, N.M., after a brief illness. He was born March 25, 1922 in Ralls, Tex. He had been a resident of Levelland for about one month. He moved to Levelland from Portales, N.M., and was engaged in the salvage business. He was a veteran of WWII, having served with the Seabees. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Nita Hinson of Levelland; two sons, David Ray Hinson and Terry Hinson, both of Farmington, N.M.; one daughter, Mrs. Cathy Primrose, Farmington, N.M.; one brother, Eugene Hinson of Farmington; five sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Peden of Lubbock; Mrs. Nelda Ellerd of Albuquerque, N.M.; Mrs. Juanita Fincannon of Levelland; Mrs. Mary Vanderhoef of Senver, Colo.; and Mrs. Patsy Roth of Breckenridge, Tex.; and two grandchildren.

	Levelland (Special)--Services for Eugene "Pete" Hinson, 63, of Levelland will be at 1 p.m. Sunday in Smith Funeral Home chapel [Ralls, TX] with Dan Schiffbauer, pastor of the Plainview Seventh-day Adventist Church officiating. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Ralls Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home. He died at 5:15 p.m. Thursday in Cook Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Ralls and had lived in Farmington, N.M. for 30 years. He moved to Levelland 3 years ago. He was a retired oil field service contractor and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. _______________________________________________________________ Jack Hinson, Reenlisted Veteran, Dies Wednesday As .22 Bullet Pierces Head
	A .22 rifle bullet through the head proved fatal Wednesday [24 APR 1946] to Pfc. Jack Hinson, 19-year-old soldier on re-enlistment furlough. Veteran of overseas service in Europe, Hinson was due to report to Fort Sam Houston today. Verdict of Justice of the Peace A. F. Odell, who made the investigations, will await arrival today [28 APR 1946] of army officials from the Clovis, N. M. army air field. Indications, Odell said today, point to accidental death. The young soldier was dead when he was found near a granary, 250 yards from the Hinson family's farm home, five miles east of Levelland, just before noon, Wednesday. A fourteen-year-old niece* and her three-year-old brother [and Patsy and Jack's nephew, Charles Edwin, Jr., who was about two and a half at the time] were the first to reach him, the investigator reported. Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending army investigations and word from a navy brother. The services will be held at the First Methodist Church here, with burial in the Ralls cemetery. The soldier was born at Ralls, and his father, a veteran of World War I, was buried there in 1939. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Charlie Hinson, and eight brothers and sisters. His three brothers are Charles Edwin and David Lee Hinson, Levelland, and Eugene of the U. S. Navy now in the Pacific. The five sisters are Nelda Frances, Martha Juanita, Mary Sue and Patsy Charlene, Levelland, and Mrs. Bob Peden, Albuquerque, N. M. Private Hinson re-enlisted in the airborne infantry two months ago, and his 60-day furlough was due to be up Sunday. An extension because of a foot injury suffered by his mother was granted by Fort Sam Houston officials. His previous service record listed 23 months of duty, 11 months of which was in the European Theater of operations. He served with artillery units of the Ninth and First armies. Hinson left the farmhouse earlier Wednesday going to the granary to shoot rats with his .22 rifle. He was accompanied by his three-year-old nephew. The two were evidently running around the granary, Odell said, when Hinson tripped over truck sideboards. The .22 bullet went into his right temple and lodged just behind his left ear. An ex-student of Levelland high school, Hinson was born in Ralls on June 15, 1926. Burial will be in Ralls Cemetery under direction of Geo. C. Price Funeral Directors. She died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in Cook Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born in Red River County [TX} and moved to Levelland in 1934 from Ralls. She married Charlie Hinson on April 18, 1917, in Paris {TX}. He died in 1939. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Church. Survivors include five daughters, Elizabeth Peden of Lubbock, Nelda Ellerd of Clovis, N.M., Juanita Fincannon of Levelland, Mary Vanderhoef of Denver, Colo., and Patsy Roth of Breckenridge; a brother, Joe Smith of Kingsland; a sister, Agnes Ligon of Lubbock; 19 grand children; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. 	Crosbyton (Special)--Services for Ruth V. Jordan, 70, are pending with Adams Funeral Home in Crosbyton. She died at 10:15 a.m. Thursday in Crosbyton Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born in Crosby County. She married Ferris V. "Shorty" Jordan December 12, 1936, in Ralls. He died Jan. 11, 1975. Mrs. Jordan was a housewife and a member of the Crosbyton Church of Christ. She had been employed by the Crosbyton Senior Citizens for the past seven years. She moved to Crosbyton in 1958 from Lubbock. Survivors include five sons, Jerry and Charley, both of Crosbyton, Gary and Eddie, both of Ralls, and Tracy of Whitehouse; a daughter, Mrs. Clyde (Peggy) Ellison of Crosbyton; three brothers, Parks Benton and Russell Benton, both of Lubbock, and Charles Benton of Las Cruces, N.M.; three sisters, Anna Benton and Margaret Moore, both of Ralls, and Lucille Pace of Idalou; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Mrs. Kizer died Sunday, July 24, 1994, in Lubbock's Methodist Hospital. She was born Nov. 20, 1937, in Draw. She married Ben Cecil Kizer on Jan 12, 1953, in Draw. She helped with the O'Donnell Rodeo Queen Contest and was assistant to the parade marshal. She was a member of the O'Donnell Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, O'Donnell Rodeo Association and Draw Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Commie Williams of Shallowater and Ronia Anderson of Denver City; her mother, Leona Cook of O'Donnell; a sister, Bertha Maria Brewer of O'Donnell; and five grand children. ________________________________ Three in State Lose Lives in Drownings [Robert Peden]
	Two Texas brothers and a 19-year-old Oklahoma City youth drowned Sunday as tragedy marked the Labor Day Weekend. Robert Peden, 19, of 5301 NW 45, drowned about 2:30 p.m. on Lake Altus-Lugert, while swimming near the floating docks on the northwest side of the dam. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Peden, who were at the scene of the mishap. Trooper Ray Griffin said Kenneth McConnel, lake patrolman, pulled Peden's body from about eight feet of water about an hour after he went down. The lake is in southwest Oklahoma. The Texas men drowned in the Cimarron River about 13 miles southwest of Stillwater and about four miles west of Perkins. The mishap occurred in an old fishing hole. The brothers, Bobby Sheppard, 26, and Horace Sheppard, 21, were on an outing at the river with their wives, the highway patrol reported. Members of the family said Horace Sheppard waded into the river to locate an underwater ledge. He stepped off the ledge and vanished. Bobby Sheppard drowned trying to rescue his brother. The two, natives of Plainview, Texas, moved to Stillwater a month ago, They were employed by a cementing company. The body of Bobby Sheppard was recovered late Sunday by Highway Patrolman Sid Berry, but Horace's body was still missing.

	Troy Dean Peden, 8-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Peden, 106 Ave. W [Lubbock, TX] died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in West Texas Hospital following an illness of two years. Funeral arrangements are pending at Sanders Funeral Home. The boy was born July 26, 1945, in Albuquerque. He moved to Lubbock with his parents in December, 1953, from Pueblo, Colo. He completed the second grade at A. C. Jackson Elementary School this year. Survivors include his parents, one brother, Bobby; one sister, Beth; and two grandmothers, Mrs. R. F. Peden, Lubbock; and Mrs. Charlie Hinson, Levelland.
