  • A reputable breeder will be only too happy to answer any of these questions.

Be very wary if the parents are not HD x-rayed. An assesment of hip status can only be given by x-ray. You should be able to sight the official AVA assesment forms. The combined score of sire and dam should not exceed 25, (Australia).

  • For example:
  • Sire 2:2=4
  • Dam 7:3=10,
  • Total combined score 14.
  • There is also a grading system,

  • For example:
  • Sire 2:2=4 grade1,
  • Dam: 7:3=10 grade2.
  • This is an acceptable combination, but rottweilers with gradings 4 and over should not be used for breeding.

Both parents should also have eye and mouth certificates. Eyes should be clear of entropian/ectropian and eye colour should be "similar". The mouth certificate should state that they have either a scissor, or level bite. Scissor is preferred, but level is acceptable. It should also state that the dog has full dentition.
