MarkAnderson.... DE, 6-6, 215, Tulsa, Okla. Played at Booker T. Washington High School. Helped Hornets to District 4 area championship as a senior. Team finished 11-2, losing to eventual champion in the semifinals of the state Class 5A playoffs. Made 79 tackles, including five sacks, and recovered two fumbles. Also caught nine passes for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Alabama's first recruit from state of Oklahoma since quarterback Warren Foust.

























Bryan Bass.... WR, 6-1, 184, Fayette Attended Westminister Academy in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., which does not have a football team, for the fall semester of his senior year. Is now playing baseball at Seminole High School Former teammate of Alabama receiver Sam Collins at Fayette County and Alabama signee quarterback Spencer Pennington. Outstanding punt returner Star shortstop Played baseball in 1999 Pan Am Games in Mexico City and Junior Olympics in Edmonton, Alberta. Expected to be a high choice in baseball's June amateur draft and may choose that over football.

























Todd Bates.... DE, 6-5, 230, Cleburne County Class 4A Lineman of the Year. Rated No. 17 in the state by The Huntsville Times. Played at tight end and outside linebacker in high school. Helped Cleburne to an 11-1 season, beating Guntersville 24-14 in first round of playoffs and losing to Fayette County 44-24 in second round. Credited with 112 tackles, forced four fumbles, recovered two and intercepted a pass. Primarily a blocker on offense, caught seven passes for 191 yards.























Quentin Bowens.... DE, 6-2, 265, Killen Transfer from East Central Community College in Decatur, Miss. Made 63 solo tackles last fall and had 16 assists. Helped East Central to a 6-4 record. Caught 12 passes for 144 yards and a touchdown as a freshman tight end at East Central. Played at Brooks High School. Brother of former Alabama receiver Tim Bowens, who graduated in 2000. Half brother Freddie Roach from Killen is also a part of Alabama's recruiting class. Former teammate of Alabama defensive tackle David Daniel, who walked on with the Tide last fall. .. One of three junior college recruits in class.























Brandon Brooks.... WR, 5-4, 150, Shades Valley Return specialist who will be one of the fastest players on the team . Brooks returned four punts for touchdowns as a sophomore and three as a junior Played wingback in high school and helped Shades Valley to an 11-3 record and the fourth round of the Class 6A playoffs as a junior and an 8-5 record as a senior, losing to Hoover in the quarterfinals. Carried 108 times for 725 yards and 10 touchdown as a senior and caught 13 passes for 325 yards and five touchdowns. Averaged 20 yards per punt return. Won the state 55-meter indoor championship as a junior; finished fourth outdoors in the 100.























Donald Clark.... TE, 6-5, 255, Boca Raton, Fla. Transfer from Fort Scott (Kan.) Community College. Signed with Missouri out of high school. Caught 15 passes for 300 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman in junior college. Named to Jayhawk all-conference team. Fort Scott finished 6-4 in 1999. Physical player. Redshirted last fall so that he will have three years of eligibility remaining.























J.B. Closner.... OL, 6-4, 285, San Antonio Played both ways in high school but received more recognition for his defense. First team all-district and second team all-San Antonio as a defensive lineman. Played at Clark High School. Team finished 4-6 his senior year. One of three players from Texas to sign with Alabama. San Antonio became a prime recruiting area for Franchione's staff while at TCU.























Brodie Croyle.... QB, 6-3, 186, Rainbow City No. 1 player on Huntsville Times Elite Eleven and considered one of the top quarterbacks in the nation. Enrolled for the second semester and will participate in spring practice. Tore ACL the first game of his senior year and missed rest of season. Westbrook Christian finished 8-4 his junior year. Father, John, played defensive end at Alabama in the early 1970s and sister, Reagan, played basketball with Tide before back injury ended her career. Brodie played basketball and baseball in high school.

Marquez Dupree.... RB/CB, 6-0, 218, Philadelphia, Miss. Son of former Oklahoma star runner Marcus Dupree. Carried 121 times for 1,206 yards and 11 touchdowns as a senior. Returned two kickoffs for touchdowns. Helped Philadelphia High to 10-2 record. Played in only one game on defense, but projected as a cornerback at Alabama. Returned only interception for a touchdown. Played first three games at cornerback as a sophomore, then moved to tailback and ran 80 yards for a touchdown on first carry. Gained 1,092 yards and scored 15 touchdowns that season. Rushed for 1,011 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior.























Von Ewing... OT, 6-5, 290, Troy Class 5A Lineman of the Year. No. 9 player on Huntsville Times Elite Eleven. Allowed only one sack in last 21 games. First player to commit to Alabama. Then changed mind and committed to Michigan. Changed his mind again and committed to Georgia. Finally committed to Alabama again after meeting new coaching staff. Played offensive and defensive tackle at Charles Henderson High School.

Roman Harper.... DB, 6-1, 178, Prattville Rated No. 24 player in the state by The Huntsville Times. Played mostly quarterback in high school. Intercepted three passes as a senior at safety and returned one for a touchdown. Helped team to a 9-2 record. Projected as a free safety at Alabama. Older brother plays at Troy State. One of final players to commit to Alabama, making his decision two days ago.
























Atlas Herrion.... OT, 6-5, 299, Daphne Played at Dodge City CC in Kansas Started at left tackle on teams that went 1-8 and 2-7. High school teammate of Alabama defensive end Kenny King at Daphne Enrolled at Alabama in January and will participate in spring practice Signed with Southern Miss out of high school, but missed ACT score by one point. Should be candidate for starting job with Alabama losing three senior starters from last year's offensive line.
























Clint Johnston.... TE, 6-4, 240, Wetumpka Originally committed to Southern Mississippi. Became second player to commit to Alabama after Franchione took over as coach. A good blocker with excellent hands, caught seven touchdown passes as a senior. Helped Wetumpka, a Class 5A school, to a 7-3 record. Caught nine passes for 270 yards and four touchdowns. Also played defensive end and made 78 tackles. Father Johnny attended Alabama on a football scholarship, but never played because of a neck injury.






















Juke King.... DB, 6-2, 203, Theodore Given name is Tershiekiya . Projected as a free safety. Helped Theodore to an 11-1 record and second round of Class 6A playoffs. Made 80 tackles and intercepted four passes. Made 82 tackles, playing strong and free safety. Also used at tailback in short-yardage situations. Plays basketball, sprints on the track team.

























Mike McLaughlin.... PK, 6-1, 190, Gautier, Miss. First team all-state. Converted 38-of-40 extra point attempts and 12-of-16 field goals as a senior. Longest field goal was a 49-yarder. Kicked off consistently into the end zone. Scored 234 points in his high school career. Alabama's incumbent kicker, Neal Thomas, also from Mississippi, will be a senior in the fall.

























Anthony Madison.... DB, 5-10, 175, Thomasville
Ranked No. 15 in the state by The Huntsville Times. Listed as an athlete by many recruiting services. Played cornerback, running back, receiver and returned kickoffs in high school. Scored five touchdowns in one game. Had 14 career interceptions.























Spencer Pennington.... QB, 6-4, 200, Fayette
Ranked No. 21 in the state by The Huntsville Times. Led Fayette Country to a 13-2 record as a senior and the Class 4A championship game, losing to T.R. Miller 28-9. Passed for 20 touchdowns and over 2,200 yards. Originally committed to Mississippi State, then changed mind when new staff at Alabama began recruiting him. Follows former Fayette quarterbacks Lance and Luke Tucker to Alabama. An outstanding third baseman, could be taken in baseball's June amateur draft.


























Charlie Peprah.... DB, 6-1, 190, Plano, Texas
Offensive Most Valuable Player in his district as a tailback, but projected to play defense in college. Gained 950 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving in an offense that threw regularly to the tailback. Helped Plano East win three straight district championships. Could play anywhere in the secondary after being a cornerback as a sophomore, a free safety as a junior and strong safety as a senior. Probably would have gone to TCU before Franchione moved to Alabama. One of three players from Texas to sign with Alabama.


























Freddie Roach.... FB/LB, 6-2, 235, Killen
No. 5 on Huntsville Times Elite Eleven. Half brother of former Alabama receiver Tim Bowens and Tide recruit Quentin Bowens. Helped Brooks High School to an 11-2 record. Ran for 184 yards and four touchdowns in 42-31 win over North Jackson in second round of Class 4A playoffs. Rushed for more than 1,200 yards and 18 touchdowns. Also made 140 tackles as a linebacker. Brooks lost to Fayette County 14-0 in quarterfinals. Could play as true freshman because Marvin Brown, who was ineligible last season, is only true fullback in the Alabama program.


























Mark Sanders.... OT, 6-7, 310, Ashville
Rated No. 20 player in the state by The Huntsville Times. Graded out 88 percent as a blocker. Older brother, Matt, signed with Alabama last year as a punter and redshirted in the fall. Mark helped Ashville, a Class 4A school, to a 9-2 record as a junior He played only offense as a junior, but played both ways as a senior Father, Tom, is the principal at Ashville High School.


























Mac Tyler.... DT, 6-6, 320, Bessemer
Signed with Alabama last year, but failed to qualify. Attended Milford Academy, a prep school in Connecticut, in the fall. Taking a couple of courses at a junior college this semester to qualify. Made 42 tackles with nine sacks in the fall for Milford, which plays mostly college freshman teams like Army, Navy, Yale and Princeton. Michigan State recruited him out of prep school, but he always wanted to go to Alabama. Played at Jess Lanier High School. Made 89 tackles with seven sacks as a junior in high school and 40 tackles in seven games as a senior.
