The technique used for the model requires understanding how the eye and/or camera sees a scene. Durand is adept in foreshortening, or whatever perspective treatment may be necesary to be sure a scene is viewed realistically after photographing. Most artists require expensive equipment to continually test the reality factor of their dioramas, but Durand is able to accomplish this with only his eye.
