I decided to go ahead and take the rest of the week off. My boss wasn't
very happy with the idea, but I told him that he was right, I was upset
over the disappearance and just needed some time to sort things out. He
said he understood, but the sooner I got over this, the better off I'd
be. He said we can't change the past, so we just have to learn how to deal
with it and get on with our lives. He's a good boss, but doesn't score
very high on the compassion scale.
Randy and Teresa still weren't home when I went over to their house last
night. I'm starting to get worried about them. They've never been gone
for more than a day without asking me to look in on Buster. It's been at
least four days now that I know they've been gone, but I'm starting to
suspect that it's actually been more like seven days. Even though I've
never been crazy about cats, Buster is an exception. I decided to bring
him over to my place until (unless?) they show up. I left a note on the
table for them in case they return.
While I was there, I looked through Randy's "library" again. I knew he
had a lot of religious books, but I never realized exactly how many he
really had. Besides the books on the shelves in his study, he had books
stacked beside his desk, some next to his computer, and when I went upstairs
to check out the rest of the house, I found more stacked on the floor next
to his bed. Geez, he must read day and night!
I picked out about six or seven more books to look through: a few more
about the last days, one about why I should believe the Bible, one about
this rapture thing, and, just out of curiosity, I borrowed one that talked
about salvation. Not that I really believe this stuff, of course. Just
curious.
