Macon, Ms.
The county was organized 23 Dec. 1833. The following names appear
in Marriage Books A and B., with abbreviations: Justice of the Peace,
J.P., Minister of the Gospel, M.G., and Ordained or Licensed
Minister, O.M. or L.M.
I have copied names that are identifiable family members, or have a
tie to the family...Beasley, Greer, Haynes, Hudson. Other names
appear that tie into the family thru daughters, or through sisters,
or thru "just hunches".
With time, maybe we can add to the list. Please take into account
that these names and dates are recorded in the County Seat, not all
records appear to be there, as there is only one marriage record
for William Beasley Hudson, and it was his third, the last one is
not recorded?
Using several sources, I have attempted to "identify" the persons
named within these pages. There may be errors, but for the most
part those identified are members of the large group of cousins,
in-laws, and other various relations of Frederick Hudson and his
wife, Lucy Greer Hudson. All corrections and additions are welcome

From Volume II 1870-1904
Book C contained only a few marriages, D and E, no white marriages,
volumes 1-4 and volume W, no racial designation. The researchers
endeavored to separate these into white and colored categories.
(Remember, this is Mississippi....) During this period a bondsman
was required to sign the marriage application, usually just a
formality. Certified copies of marriage records can be obtained
from the circuit clerk, Noxubee County, Macon, Mississippi, by
giving the book and page number where recorded.
We will use a different format, one that will show the Bondsman's
name inserted between the "book and page" and the "performed by",
seperated by the "/" mark. The first name listed will be the
Bondsman.

As you must know, I was not able to connect all the marriages in all
the books, but I was able to establish a connection from other
sources to make the above statements. I am sure there will be an
error or two, but here's hoping you can help out by letting me know
if I did make a mistake, and to help set the record straight.
What stands out in my mind is that there were many more marriages
that were not listed in these books. If we could get church records,
we might find them on registers....if we only knew which churches.
Out there somewhere, someday, someone is going to be looking for some
of these people, I hope that I have not confused the issue by my
attempt to relate these members of the Hudson, Haynes, Greer,
and Beasley families.
To further confuse matters, let me add this:
John Hudson, son of Ward and Martha Hudson, married Mary Beasley in
Lunenberg County, Va. Her parents have not been proven. They had
children, Frederick, Rolin/Robert, Ward, and Elizabeth. When John
died, 1790, his widow waited until 1793 to remarry. She wed John's
brother-in- law, Seth Ward. They moved to Georgia.
Frederick married Lucy Greer, daughter of William Greer and Mary Jane
Haynes. Mary Jane was the daughter of John Haynes and Sarah Phelps,
and the grand-daughter of Henry Haynes, Sr. Sarah's father was Col.
John Phelps.
Family history conflicts on the site of Lucy Greer's death. One side
says that she died in Georgia, the other, that she died and is
buried in Mississippi.
Frederick's brother, Ward, married Lucy's cousin, Jennie/Jimmy
Haynes. Then, Jenny/Jimmie Haynes' sister, Betsey, married a 1st
cousin, Henry English. Henry and Betsey had a daughter, Nancy.
Nancy married William Beasley, son of Robert Beasley (1740 Ireland).
Robert Beasley married nineteen years prior to the date that Mary
Beasley married John Hudson, in the same county. This induces the
theory they are related....
Lucy Greer had a brother, Abraham, who married...Betsey Beasley,
thought to be sister to William Beasley. This is not a proven
relationship, although it does appear to be correct.
The Haynes married into the Greers, children of those marriages
married their cousins, some brought in "new blood", only to have
those marry into the other families...The Beasely name shows up
marrying Hudson, skips a generation, and then two sisters marry two
Hudson brothers. By this time, those Beasleys are made up of Haynes
and Greer lines....
Frederick and Lucy had children, three have been proven: John, who
married Elizabeth Beasely, William G.(Greer),who married Sarah Annie
Beasley, and Mary, who married William Bird/Byrd. (Depending upon
where you look, it is spelled both ways.)
The Haynes families in Noxubee County are related to Lucy Greer
through her mother, Jane Haynes. The Haynes' are sons and grandsons
of John Haynes, who was William Greer's father-in-law.
Should anyone be able to identify any others that are/were related to
this group of people, their in-put would be greatly appreciated and
are invited to contact me.
My grandfather, Isaac Lafayette Hudson, was born in Shuqualak,
Noxubee County Mississippi, on April 24, 1872. His mother, Sarah
Watson Hudson, died the day of his birth. His father, William
Beasley Hudson, died in April of 1877.
In 1888, Ike and his brother, Charlie, left Noxubee Co., Ms., for
Hill County, Texas. It is told that they went to live and work for
a cousin, Henry Greer. However, they ultimately landed jobs with
someone else.
They met and married sisters, Carrie Elizabeth Pate and Mattie Eula
Pate.
Ike and Carrie ended up in Knox County, Texas. Charlie and Mattie
were near-by in Haskell County, Texas. There are numerous double
second cousins due to their marriages, and until I got into this
research, I thought that was unique....I did not know HOW unique this
whole family was until now.
My father, Charles Jackson Hudson, was born April 15, 1913 in Hubbard
City, Hill County, Texas. My mother, Myrtie Mae Durst, was born
August 10, 1918, Rochester, Haskell County, Texas. Although they met
while in Texas, they married in Selma, California, August 26, 1938.
Charles Jackson "Shorty" Hudson died Feb. 3, 1995, Hanford, Kings
County, California.
I had begun this quest prior to his death, and I dedicate my work
to him.
