Emily

He said Emily Emily
What I'm feeling is hard to define
Emily oh Emily
You must forgive me this one last time

It never was the first time for her
That those words reeked the air
He came to her with a sunflower
And put it in her straight blonde hair
and said Emily Emily
You're sweet and I know you won't mind
Emily oh Emily
You must forgive me this one last time

Emily sat down on a garden stool
Beside a light flickering pool
Which reflected the sun and the sky
The gold that so blinded her eyes
The air had a warm and lazy tone
For a moment she forgot she wasn't alone
And garden colors which naturally blend
Made her believe the day would yet mend
until he said Emily
Why are you silent you were so kind
Emily oh Emily
You must forgive me this one last time

She looked up at him with a sigh
And right then wishing she could fly
Up into the hot air and cool blue
Resting on the red rose hue
As though interrupted quizzically
Avoiding him or pretending
She watched their images mirrored
Squinting at the sun she peered
Then Emily sat still
As though a flower had answered her
And her peace changed
And she broke the air with her words

Soon she was alone with only the flies
And butterflies which glided by
Then she rose and left the stool
Walking blankly from the dazzling pool

Within days came a letter brought
She found she was still being sought
The writing was smooth and clear
She found it hard reading with tears
Emily my Emily
Listen I know I was ever so blind
Emily oh Emily
You must forgive me just this one time
And she cast the letter aside
Knowing she wasn't seeing though pride
If she did as she had done before
Soon enough it would end for more
She knew she had to be strong and forget
And she knew her mind had to be set
So Emily walked back to the garden alone
Believing she'd move on and the sun shone

His words echoed and her expression was still
A dragonfly darted and the world was real
She closed her eyes and her mind flew away
The air was warm on this calm day
and he said Emily stay
Can't you see I'm out of my mind
Emily oh Emily
You must forgive me this one last time
Emily my dear Emily
You're innocent and refreshing to me
Emily oh Emily
I love you my lovely my sweet Emily
