Hi Ed,
Thought I would drop you a few lines and give you the latest on
my research of the Grimes Family. I have recently found out that
John and Nancy (?) Grimes had another daughter. Her name was Barbara
Ann Grimes, b. December 14, 1813 in Kentucky and died February 24,
1899 in Ursa, Adams County, Illinois, she was the eldest of their
children. She married Adam C. Taylor on October 8, 1834 in Jefferson
County, Kentucky. He was born May 12, 1811 in Kentucky and died on
April 3, 1875 in Ursa, Adams County, Illinois. They are buried in the
Denson Cemetery.

They had the following children;

Clarence Taylor (no other info at this time)
Martina Taylor, b. November 22, 1846 in Quincy, Adams County,
Illinois and died on May 13, 1938 in Ursa, Adams County, Illinois.
She was married to Thomas Leachman, b. September 22, 1937 and died on December 6, 1906.
They were married on March 10, 1873 in Ursa, Adams County, Illinois.
They had two children that died as infants. They are all buried under
one marker in the Denson Cemetery at Ursa,
Illinois.............later............Monty

Hi Ed,
I may not have informed you that John Grimes' wife was not named
Mary (?), her real first name was Nancy (?) Grimes. I found this out
in a recent discovery of another Obituary for Mary Jane Grimes Mayfield
copied as follows;
Obituary of Mary Jane Grimes Mayfield:

Ursa, Illinois, March 1901

Mary Jane Grimes, daughter of John and Nancy Grimes was born near St Matthews, Kentucky,
October 10, 1816 and died March 25, 1901 aged 84 years 5 months and 15 days.

She was married to Uriah Mayfield September 10, 1835; to this union were born four children,
two sons and two daughters, three of whom survive. H.C. Mayfield of Marcelline,
Mrs T.J. Givan of Hannibal, Missouri and Miss Lethe of this place,
all being present at the funeral.

Mrs Mayfield came with her husband to this state from Kentucky in the year 1837.
She united with the Christen Church of this place in 1839, of which
she remained a faithful member to the last, and although she was
unable to attend church by reason of her afflictions, she had the
sweet peace of knowing that she was a child of God. She has left all
earthly friends and associations and ascended to a heavenly home, to
meet with her loved ones who had gone before. As a mother, those who
knew her best said she was truely loyal and sincerely devoted to her
children. She loved her home and loved to make indeed a home sweet
home. The funeral services took place from the house, Wednesday
morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Reverand Thomas Ringland of the
M. P. Church who spoke briefly from the words found in Prov. 16:31,
after which the remains were taken to the Denson Cemetery to await
the resurrection of the just.

A precious one from us has gone

A voice we loved is stilled

A place is vacant in our home

Which never can be filled

God in His wisdom has recalled

The boon his love has given,

And though the body slumbers here,

Her soul is safe in Heaven.

Comment: The dates on her grave marker list 1818, if correct, at her
death she would have been 83 yrs 5 mo, not 84 .....her mother's first
name of "Nancy" may turn out later to be a misprint but for the time
being it is the only documentation I have and I will, until better
verification, enter her as Nancy (?) Grimes....I am still looking for
Mary Janes Death Certificate....it may settle the dispute about her
mother's first name once and for all......MLR

As I mentioned in my last message I also recently found out that John
and "Nancy" Grimes' oldest daughter was named Barbara Ann Grimes and
that she married Adam C. Taylor in Jefferson County, Kentucky before
their move to Adams County, Illinois.

Other information you may be interested in concerns the Bosticks,
Yeargains, and another older Samuel Grimes. I was researching some
names on the 1860 Census for September 6, 1860 and as I have a King
family in my line I noticed a William King of Ursa, Adams County
Illinois had a man by the name of William Bostick working for him.
His age was 18 and his place of birth is listed as Indiana....Your
Bosticks were originally from Indiana weren't they??.....any
connection.??...I also noticed that on the 1880 Census for Mendon,
Illinois, Samuel S. Grimes and his wife Louisa Ann Yeargain were
living in Mendon with their 2 children, Sanford, age 22 and William
B. aged 19. At the time they also had a Mary E. (?) living with them
and she was enumerated as a daughter in-law, age 22, b. in Illinois.

There is also an older Samuel Grimes enumerated on the 1840 census
for the township of Fallcreek, Adams County Illinois.....as of yet I
have no idea where he may fit into the Grimes family. He is listed as Follows;

Samuel Grimes,

Males: Under 10=3, 30-40=1

Females: Under 10=2, 10-20=2, 30-40=1

And right next to him on this same census for Fallcreek Township is enumerated;

John P. Yeargain,

Males: Under 10=1, 20-30=1

Females: Under 10=2, 20-30=1

Let me know if you have a listing for these two Families or where they may fit in.

Have to run Ed,.......later.....Monty
