WILLIAM MARTIN 1690 to 1750 (Estimate)

William Martin is the earliest member that family records are known of and
was born in the manor of Pendergast in Pembroke Co. England around 1690.

The family manor and estate of Williams father, Baron of Emmeas, by Name,
passed to the eldest son, Sparks Martin.

William was the youngest son in the family however he took over his family
mercantile business and continued to prosper and become a prominent family
in Bristol, England. At the time, Bristol was the second largest city in
England.

Certain family legends relate that the Martin family dates back in English
history to the eleventh century when Martin De Tours came to England as
part of William the Conqueror succession to the throne as King of England.
Sir Martin De Tours was alleged to be captain of the Kings of ships that
brought the new king of England, William l, the Conqueror, was crowned
King 12-25-1066.

This would make William approximately the 15th removed generation great
grandson of Sir Martin De Tours, a Frenchman of noble rank in the Kings
Quarters.

The known children of William Martin are as follows:

1. Sparks Martin--Succeeded his father as a merchant in Bristol, England.
2. George Martin
3. John Martin
4. JOSEPH MARTIN Sent to America around 1730 by his father.
5. Nancy Martin

No known records reflect the names of any wife (Consort) or other children.
