The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the six IITs, created on 21st August, 1961 by an Act of the Indian Parliament as an institute of national importance. It is a deemed university and awards degrees at the Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral levels. Currently, it has twenty-three departments and research centers.
The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the largest departments in IIT Delhi, and has a number of distinguished faculties, all holding Ph.D. degrees from renowned institutes in India and abroad.
The objectives of the Department include
- Training students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Research and Development in all branches of Electrical Engineering
- Providing continuing education programs for working professionals
- Collaborating with government agencies, defense organizations, national and international industries of repute and universities worldwide through sponsored research, consultancy projects and manpower training schemes.
The Department offers a B.tech. program and six Mtech. programs in Communications, Computer Technology, Control and Instrumentation, Integrated Electronics and Circuits, Power Systems and Power Electronics, Electrical Machines and Drives. In addition, the Department offers two interdisciplinary M.Tech. Programs, one in VLSI Design, Tools and Technology and the other in Opto-electronics and Optical Communication.
The Department has over twenty well equipped laboratories and operates its own library, offering facilities in all areas of Electrical Engineering.
