Arrival - Part 3 As Alain looked out the shuttle window as it passed by the bow of the ExoFrigate Normandy, amid the hustle and bustle of the fourteen other brash young recruits. He leaned back against the wall of the shuttle, he thought to himself this is my new home, finally a place where he could almost feel at home, as it turned hard to line up with the Normandy's docking bay. The speaker sparked to life, "Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the Normandy." The shuttle door opened and a young trooper walked on board. "Welcome aboard, gentlemen. We've been waiting for you. You'll split up into the groups when call your names and then Petty Officers Forget, Clarke, and Nabokov will take you to your quarters and while administrating basic orientation. All right then lets begin." "Yes, sir." was the response. "E-frame pilots line up - Berling - Ghallager - O'Malley - Senez - Stevenson - And Vouriot Follow Petty Officer Forget." "Great last again," grumbled Alain. "Grab your stuff and let's go. Your quarters are on same deck as the primary flight deck," yelled Forget "the mess hall is on deck nine, the briefing room are on deck two and the sick bay is on deck. You four, as he pointed to Berling, Ghallager, O'Malley, and Stevenson, are assigned to Hellcat Squadron and these are your quarters, he pointed to the to the four cabins in front of him. Vouriot and Senez you guys are in Gamma Squadron and take these cabins. After you guys are set up meet the CMO for your physical, after that get something to eat and get to the briefing rooms to meet the rest of your squads, Hellcat in One and Gamma in Two, all right." "Yes, Sir." It was a standard issue cabin, "No place like home", Alain said as he opened his duffel bag, placed his extra clothes in the dresser and took out his leather pouch and placed it on top of the dresser. The rest of his possessions will be delivered in the next few hours after the shuttle's cargo bay is unloaded. But know he had more important matters to attend to. ********************************************************************* "NEXT" yelled the Doctor. "Name, please." "Alain Vouriot." "All right, let's begin. I'll start by asking a few questions. If that's all right." "Ask away, you're the one in charge here, not me." "You're assigned as the med-tech for Gamma Squad right?" "Yes." "So you'll be spending a lot of time in sick bay, helping out?" "Probably," answered Alain. After the questions came the physical assessment. "You're in perfect health, ready for anything." "Thanks, I guess?" "I have a two more questions." "Ya, what are they?" feeling a little irritated. "What do your tattoos mean?" "Simple enough, the one on my shoulder is my French heritage and the one on my wrist is my spirit animal. Is that good enough for you?" "Yes, now NEXT!" "Yes Ma'am." ********************************************************************* The mess wasn't too hard to find. Alain got in line and accepted whatever came to his plate, he learned long ago not to complain about his food. He sat down at a table in a corner alone, he liked being alone. A group of jump troopers came over, and he had a feeling that trouble was brewing. "You're sitting at our table," the lead trooper, a medium man with shock white hair, barked. "I don't see your names on it," Alain replied as he stood up exposing the full of his larger stature, "but you can have it now." "All right then," as the trooper backed away. ********************************************************************* As he entered the briefing room, Alain grabbed the chair nearest to the door, and waited for the CO to begin. Trying to keep out of any conversation that may tickle his ear, but still listening quite adeptly. "People, if you could be seated. I'm Lieutenant-Commander B. Hobbes, the commanding officer of Gamma Squadron. I'd like to welcome you here as members of Gamma Squadron," said Commander Hobbes, a normal specimen of the human race, "This is your Executive Officer, First Lieutenant Ratislav O'Muirdagh," he pointed to a nondescript man of Russian descent. "Our Intel Officer, Lieutenant Tedronai, Elan please stand up," a thin man stood up at the end of the table "Our Chief repair officer, 2nd Lt. Kristin O'Connor," a woman three seats down from Alain got up and waved "Our medical technician, ExoTrooper Alain Vouriot," he got up looking surprised that he wasn't called last and scanned the room looking for anything, "He'll patch you guys up when you get hurt, and finally we have a cadet with us Midshipman Jason Morris. I think that is all, tomorrow we'll start the extensive training, but now we'll get down to the flight deck to get our Frames up and ready for tomorrow. All right, let's go." All the way down to the flight deck, the Field Sergeant Kat McLean started to talk his ear off by asking to many questions. "So where are you from?" she asked. "Canada, and I don't want to talk about it." he answered quick and to the point, that was his way. "Really. Well what do you want to talk about? What are your interests? Why did you join the ExoFleet?" "You know this is a very easy way to get on my bad side, but you remind me of my little sister," he quipped, "I like being alone, I prefer it but some times the pack calls I got to answer it. I joined the fleet because I want to get away. Are you happy now?" But by that time they had gotten to the hanger and the E-Frames. Lieutenant Hobbes went over to the deck officer and he received a list of frames and which ones were assigned to us. The ones that were obvious were given out first, the field repair E-frame to Lt. O'Connor, the logistics E-frame to Lt. Tedronai, the Recon E-frame for Midshipman Morris, the ExoFighter Space E-frame for ExoTrooper Montgomery and ground assault E-frame for Senez. Now came the unconventional ones, the Police Enforcer E-Frame for the CO, the Field Sergeant E-frame for the XO, a bit odd but it was his choice, and the huge Rapid Assault E-frame for Alain, the hulking brute fit him like a glove and he made he entire squad realize it by performing a few ground maneuvers inside the hanger. He now knew he was home.
