Provigil (modafinil) Watch
*News on this Drug*

October 29th, 1998 Thursday.

This update can be taken at face value as how the reader decides
it to be.

I often call, once a month to the company "Cephalon Inc." that
holds the rights to Provigil (Modafinil) for the United States to
find out any news on its release, costs, forms it will be available
etc. Below is a email response to my question to the company on when the drug itself will be released. First I'll place my email to the company. Then their reply. I decided to email a address I had for them since the telephone conversation I had didnt sound like it pin-pointed a rough date during the expected month the company had originally thought the drug would be released. THis update is not ment to imply that the drug is yet again delayed in its released time. Which was originally expected to be the begining of 1999. Namely Janurary 1999. It is just their official response which I found to be rather "non-committing" to that date however that struck me as possibily a "not so sure" on their original release date. Therefore consider this information as a possible further delay in the drugs release. Although I'm told they have no official date planned. So it is ment, this information, to provide just the latest conversation in writing I have had with them only. And does not represent any official delays, or news release with that regard.

In the past releases it was determined that this newly developed drug will be released in the
begining of 1999. Hopefully the time being Janurary 1999.

Can you provide a confirmation of the date/month of Janurary 1999. Or any other possible
new date for its release ?

Thankyou

Dear Sir,

This letter is in response to your request for information regarding
PROVIGIL (modafinil) Tablets.

PROVIGIL is currently pending approval by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ?to improve wakefulness in patients with excessive daytime sleepiness associated with narcolepsy.?  PROVIGIL was granted ?Approvable? status in December 1997, and Cephalon is continuing to work with FDA to resolve all outstanding issues.  It is difficult to determine when FDA will render its decision; we are hopeful to receive final approval for PROVIGIL during the coming months.

If you require further information, you may contact Cephalon Professional Services at (800) 896-5855.

Sincerely,

Kiumars Vadiei, PhD, RPh

Their email to me I pasted as it was sent. unedited.

I did however edit the last section. It was a notice that the email was the property of the company and it was private and for my eyes only etc etc.
Having a few years in Law School behind me thus far I can say email once sent is no ones property. Meaning, once I for example get a email that was intended to be sent to me. I may do with it what I wish. It isnt a secret message. Nor is it for my eyes only. Not sure what that was all about. But be it as it may. Probably a way to keep rumors on comments the company sends via email to the one person it was sent to. But since it is now _my_ property as well as theirs. Its here to help keep the companies email box from being filled with questions asking the same as mine email. So I'm helping them in a way <G>. Feel free to pass my new property around <G>.

I'm not sure what the " ? " in the email indicate. Perhapes typo's and a keyboard problem. Maybe they use the same computer as I have <G>.  Or perhapes it means the person wasnt sure about those things.

Either way it does seem that the company has not yet satisfied the FDA's guidelines thus far.

As more becomes available I'll keep you upto date here.

Again, if you decide waiting is nolonger the path for you. I encourage you to
do the two other options for you then. Order under Compassionate Use. Which the guidelines can be found from your neurologist and the FDA. If you require further help and information on this avenue please email me. wlk@magpage.com

Or, simply order it from over sea's. No prescription required. However the cost is roughly $169 U.S. Funds. But the drug is worth it for most who have tried it. So perhapes its money well spent. For information on over sea's ordering and the how to's, visit the Main Introduction Page and read more. Companies that provide it, how to order, and other information are available there.
