David Holt (1927-2003)
The so-called "male Shirley Temple."
Died November 15, 2003, of congestive heart failure. He was 76.
Signed by Paramount Pictures in 1934, at age 6, as the studio's answer to Fox's Temple. Never rose to Temple's level, but worked as a supporting kid actor in the likes of 1938's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and 1939's Beau Geste.
Cast as titular character in MGM's David Copperfield (1935), but replaced two weeks into filming with Freddie Bartholomew.
As an adult, worked as a jazz musician and composer ("The Christmas Blues").
