Some things that
the book of Job has to say about Satan. By John Chopores Chapter oneJob 1:6 ¶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came
to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. It is clear, that Satan is not one of the “sons of God”, for
he “also” came. Job 1:7 And the
LORD said to Satan, "From where do you come?" So Satan answered the
LORD and said, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking
back and forth on it." Satan is walking the earth, seeking someone to harm. Cf. 1 Peter 5:8 ¶ Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Job 1:8 Then the
LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is
none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and
shuns evil?" Job 1:9 So Satan
answered the LORD and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? Satan will not admit that God is good in nature and want
humans to be happy! Job 1:10
"Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and
around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands,
and his possessions have increased in the land.
The Devil does not understand (or acts as if, he does not)
true love and loyalty to God! Job 1:12 And the
LORD said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not
lay a hand on his person." So Satan went out from the presence of the
LORD. Satan will do as much harm as he can! Chapter twoJob 2:1 ¶ Again there was a day when the sons of God came
to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to
present himself before the LORD. Satan does like to come into places that he does not belong at. Cf.Rev.12: 7 And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8 but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
Job 2:2 And the
LORD said to Satan, "From where do you come?" So Satan answered the
LORD and said, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back
and forth on it." Satan did not learn from Job, for Satan is still doing the same things that he did in Job 1:7. Job 2:3 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you
considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless
and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to
his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without
cause." Satan is always working to harm us! Cf. Zechariah 3:1 ¶ Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him Job 2:4 So Satan
answered the LORD and said, "Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he
will give for his life. 5 "For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." Job 42: 10 ¶ And the LORD restored Job's losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before. 17 So Job died, old and full of days God won! And Job did ok too..
