Bible studies about God the Holy Spirit

Part 1. The basics

By John Chopores

Since the Holy Spirit is “God the Spirit”, when the Holy Spirit is present, God is present! Cf. Psalms 51:11  Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

The Holy Spirit is a person, and as such, can be our friend or enemy.

Cf. Isaiah 63:10  But they rebelled and grieved His Holy Spirit; So He turned Himself against them as an enemy, And He fought against them.

It is God the Father, and God the Son, Who gives the Holy Spirit.

Cf. Isaiah 63:11  Then he remembered the days of old, Moses and his people, saying: "Where is He who brought them up out of the sea With the shepherd of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit within them,

Isa. 63: 7 ¶ I will mention the lovingkindnesses of the LORD And the praises of the LORD, According to all that the LORD has bestowed on us, And the great goodness toward the house of Israel, Which He has bestowed on them according to His mercies, According to the multitude of His lovingkindnesses.

John 16:7 ¶ "Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.

From the Spirit comes true knowledge

Cf. Nehemiah 9:20  You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them, And did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, And gave them water for their thirst.

John 16: 13  "However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.

14  "He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.

15  "All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

As God He had part in the Work of redemption!

Cf. Matthew 1:18 ¶ Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 1:20  But while he thought about these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit.

This is in accordion with the Will of God the Father!

Cf. James 1: 17  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.

18  Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.

We are to baptize in His Name. [You may want to read my web page called: “Three in One” it is about the Holy Trinity].

Cf. Matthew 28:19  "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Because God is three-in-One! Cf.

We are to baptize in all Three! Cf. Acts 8:37  Then Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."

Acts 8:38  So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him.

Acts 19:5  When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

1 Corinthians 1:13  Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

Matthew 3:16  When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.

Matthew 3:17  And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."

Genesis 1:26 ¶ Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."

Col. 2: 8  Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.

9  For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;

Think about it, Jesus Christ is called God! [You may want to see my web site called: “Deity of Christ”.].

Colossians 2:2  that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,

Colossians 2:3  in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Heb. 1:8  But to the Son He says: "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your Kingdom. [Here God the Father, is calling God the Son (Jesus Christ), God!].

9  You have loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions." [We see here, That God the Father is the God of God the Son].

10  And: "You, LORD, in the beginning laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands.

Even Jesus Christ Himself, said that He was (is) God!

Cf. John 14:9  Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, `Show us the Father'?

Three in Heaven

Cf. 1 John 5:7  For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.  [Jesus Christ is the “Word” see John 1:1-17.].
