Janis Joplin
Janis Lyn Joplin 1943-1970

Janis Joplin was born in 1943 in Texas. Throughout her early life she sang in small Texas clubs. She was different from most people. Unlike her peers, she was a loner and listened to folk and blues.

In 1966, she formed her band, Big Brother and the Holding Company. The group quickly grew in success. Joplin performed at the 1967 Monterey Pop Music Festival and the Woodstock Music and Arts fair two years later.

Janis also had a drinking problem that came with her lifestyle. She died in 1970 at the age of 27.
