Jim Morrison
James Douglas Morrison 1943-1971

James Douglas Morrison was born in Florida in 1943. He got involved with music when his friend from film school, Ray Marzerek, saw his poetry and suggested they start a band.

Jim and Ray formed the Doors in 1965. The Doors' music was very unique and the band rose to fame quickly. However, tensions within the Doors rose too. Jim was one of the first people not to change a lyric while performing on the Ed Sullivan Show. (the executives had asked him to change "Girl we couldn't get much higher" to "girl we couldn't get much better" in the song "Light My Fire). The band was thrown out after the performance and promised they would never play on that show again.

Jim continued to grow more alienated from the band. He moved to Paris in 1971. His girlfriend Pamela discovered him one morning in the bathtub dead and smiling. Jim had always said he would welcome death. He was 27 years old. Pamela died three years later.
