A man who gains full or plenary indulgence as one who for a certain sum of money, to be given to the pope, bishop, or priest, obtains absolution from all his crimes, without any sorrow or repentance of heart, and, at the same time, a kind of permit to sin as much as he pleases in the future.

True teachings of the Catholic Church:

An indulgence has NOTHING whatever to do with the guilt of past sins, nor their eternal punishment, much less with sins to come.

An indulgence was simply a remission in whole or in part, through the superabundant merits (the merits of Christ = the Power and Grace of God Almighty) of Jesus Christ and His saints, of the temporal punishment due to God on account of sin after the guilt and eternal punishment have been remitted in the Sacrament of Penance.

In regard to the poor - "those who have no money must supply by their prayers and fasts, since the Kingdom of Heaven should be made open to the poor as much as the rich". The scale of offerings and donations laid down by the instruction of the Archbishop repudiates any slander in regard to buying and selling indulgences.
