The parish church of St. Dunstan's in the East has one of Sir Christopher Wren's first Gothic steeples, a style that would be copied throughout the country. It was also one of his strongest. When the church was decimated by bombs one night in 1941, the walls and tower remained standing. The Worshipful Company of Gardeners set to work transforming Wren's house of worship into a peaceful oasis in the middle of the City.
