May 2, 1998 - Astronomy Day at the Science Museum of VA
Sam's Display
Sam displayed his 8" Celestron telecope and lying on the table in front of the computer monitor, his high gain CCD camera. On the screen and table are pictures of deep space he took.
Visit Sam's CCD site.
My Display
For my part, I set up a multi-screen display. The left screen was connected to a computer with Sam's and my astronomical web sites displayed. On the center screen was a video tape of the partical eclips of the sun that took place on 2/26/96. I made the tape using my 2 1/2" refractor cut down to about a 1" opening and set up in front of the museum. The right screen is showing an image of MIR being taken through my 4 1/2" telescope (white scope behind the monitor) and CCD camera (on top) looking through the window at a small picture over a 100 feet away.

Lens Grinding
Joe is explaining the process of grinding a telescope mirror - I really think he's resting...
There was also a 4lb. meteorite, an astronomy software demonstration, the "Old Navigator" showed up, and there were several telescopes set up on the front lawn for viewing the sun and sun spots.
